I have a 2jzgte BPU+++ ,and before going the single turbo route I
want to install the HKS 264 int/exh camshafts along with HKS cams pulleys.

I think I don't have to tune anything except the cam pulleys.I mean
I don't need a standalone ecu do I? I know I need that for the 272 cams
isn't that right?

Mk4 guys say it is ok...the 264 will give 30 whp and 200-300 rpms of lag
and stock steady idle, and the 272 will give 50 whp but with a 600-700 rpms
more lag and 900 to 1000 rpm of idle.

What do you think?
I still have the stock jdm twins & jdm 440cc injectors :sarcasm:

i guess it all depend's on how high the 264's make power.if they still make power past your stock rev limit, then you wouldn't see there full potential

Yeah, 264 makes power until 6.500 rpm and keeps 90 of the power till
7300 rpm.All of that is with a T04Z single turbo and 15 psi (1.05) bar of boost. Without to much lag as the 272 cams...

Stay away from the HKS cam gears. Go with fidanza instead. The HKS are only 3 bolt. Ryan Woon made over 900 on the 264s. I think that will be sufficent....

yeah usually cams are not that big of a deal.. once you pass 264 the supra guys usually recommend upgrading the whole valvetrain on top of it

Indeed. you'll see 264's in most street driven cars.. even Ryan Woon's car had them with what he was doing, as stated above.

Not to mention, most of the guys running the 264s install them with the stock gears. They should be dialed in but the gains have been shown to be very minimal considering the dyno time and cost of the cam gears themselves. If you are going 272's then I would do oversized valves and a larger intake. Otherwise, rock the 264's and maybe upgrade the springs with some Brian Crowers.

I will stick with the 264s...
No valves upgrade or springs with these cams, and I won't buy the
HKS cam gears at all, stock will do the jub.
Ryan Woon hit 900+ with 264s? Man that's impressive
I will keep those 264s for ever :sarcasm:

you guys know what kinda gain, if any, can there be if you do upgrade the springs and valves?

No gain power wise, but you can rev the motor safer if you have a standalone or Gforce ECU with a higher rev limit. The increased revs with cams will yield more power but the springs themselves wont do anything for you on a stock ECU power wise. Some MKIV guys bang out 8,200 on the stock springs with no issues but I would do the springs because they are cheap insurance considering they are $360 new.

I was told that I could go with stock springs/retainers
till 7.500 rpms and being 100% safe...and I know a friend of
mine in England with a mk4 that has Motec,272, revs to 8.200 rpms
and still has the stock valvetrain while pushing about 720 ctrank hp!
