Also was wondering if the 2jz uses the arp 4age flywheel bolts that they sent for my buddys 1jz (he no longer needs them and offered them to me) are they the same?

Regarding the price of the 2jz rods. You can always search for a good used set. I just acquired a set of 2jz-gte rods, pistons, and caps for my 1.5jz motor for $105 shipped to my door from a guy on supraforums. I only bought them because i needed the caps for the rods. But, just keep looking around for good deals, unless you are in a hurry to finish up the motor.

REplace them... better safe than sorry ;) Plus it's easier to replace than to try to measure stretch on a bolt. Might as well just put ARP's in and be done with it.

Actually the TSRM says that to check the stretch in a bolt all you have to do is measure the diameter of the bolt with a micrometer. Anyone building an engine should have a micrometer. If any portion of it is smaller than the spec it is out of tolerance. Its a pretty big tolerance too - its easy to see if a bolt has been stretched too far.

I would buy them for the 7m but not the 2j. The 7m uses a different rod bolt setup (stud and nut) and the 2j uses bolts into a threaded rod end. The stock bolts are plenty stout.

Some things are worth the money - I dont think this is one of them but to each his own.

Yes, the 4A-GE and 1(2)JZ-GTE use the same flywheel bolts. I believe teh 7M can use them too, you just need less bolts.

Horsepowerfreaks has flywheel bolts on sale right now. I think it's $37 for a set.
