Disclaimer: This will be a very picture intensive thread!

Well, I am finally in a position to start working on the car again. I am the 2nd owner and got it as a Birthday present when I was 16, now 24. Needless to say this was my first car to own and work on!

I had it for all of maybe 2 weeks before blowing the head gasket. :icon_bigg So, as a father/son project we tore it apart and went in with a reman'd 7M from ATK. I modded and drove the shit out of it until leaving for college. I didn't want to risk anyone hitting/stealing it so I left it home. Worst thing I could of done, it sat for quite a few years. I drove it the times I was home but eventually blew the HG on that motor about 2 years ago. I blame letting the car sit, so bad for it. I trailered it to where I am now, Bryan, TX and now the project starts!

I have a 2JZGE on the way, should be here Friday! The build is going to be longish and meticulous. My goal is to make this an absolute beast on the street, not a dyno/track queen.

The motor will sit around 9.0-9.2:1 Compression run a max of 15-20 PSI. At least for now :biglaugh:.

Thanks Suprahero! I'm gonna need it :icon_bigg.

Well, today I wanted to have the motor completely apart but ran into two issues. First of all, everything on this motor was put together from Toyota with the mindset of it never coming off. The crank pulley bolt would not budge! I tried everything from a homemade rig that utilized 2x 5' cheater bars(Felt like the ground was going to break), a 3/4" Drive Insane Impact Wrench, throw some Benzo-Matic heat in there and repeat, still nothing!

More on that issue in a bit, second problem was two of the head bolts........ I managed to break them all loose in the proper TSRM order except two, so I guess not in the TSRM order. Anyways, the back two on the exhaust side stripped; I exhausted my bag of tricks and failed. At this point, 2J is in the lead with 2 Points and me trailing at 0.

I took the motor to a local machine shop and they are going to perform their magic and get it back to me next Wednesday. In the mean time, I went ahead and cleaned some parts and trashed the ones that will not be used.

I am going to start stripping the bay down and prep it for paint. Car is going to be completely repainted Black.

Random words of self-encouragement go here.

No one touch these!

on the crank pulley bolt. try putting something in to stop the counterweight on the crank when trying to break the bolt loose, ive done that on my last 2 motors and it worked each time.

I threaded some pretty strong bolts into the back of the crank and placed a pipe in between them and against the motor stand cast arm. At that point, the crank pulley couldn't budge when trying to remove the bolt. I had a 5' pipe on it, put all my weight into it; felt like I was going to make the motor do a backflip. Had a couple friends stand on the stand's legs too. Heat was applied in this process too.

It's in the machine shop's hands now, I mean how much could they possibly charge to drill out two head bolts and remove a crank pulley bolt? :nono:

Well, I worked on the bay a little today. Removed all of the AC Components, not going back in with it. My AC has never worked, but the targa has been plenty. I also got a few other parts off.

Well, I made quite a bit of progress today. I got tired of waiting on the machine shop, so I picked the motor up and got it done. About 30 mins of hammering that Crank Pulley Bolt and it cam loose! I then drilled out the center of the two stripped head bolts, hammered a T60 Socket into it and breaker bar'd them out. All of the journals look pretty good! Everything is wrapped and ready for the trip to the machine shop tommorrow. Here are the pics!

looks like you are going to have some fun once it's all up and running!:D

I'm having fun now! Yea, definitely more fun when it's running :biglaugh:.

Today:
I dropped the head, block, crank and cams off at the machine shop today. Took them to a place called G&G Performance in Tomball, TX. Very nice people and have experience with 7M's and 2J's. They are going to hot tank, deck and hone the block... plug egr hole, hot tank and mill the head... and polish the crank and cams.

I also managed to clean my pistons/rods. Probably took longer than it should have, and they still need a bit more cleaning. I got most if not all of the carbon off the tops/sides and out of the ring grooves. I am still coming off my buzz from gas/degreaser fumes! Too cold to leave the garage door open all the way :nono:.

Thanks! I'll let you know if I need those rods/pistons :icon_bigg.

Today:
I went ahead and cleaned all/most of the carbon off of the valves. Also, cleaned the retainers, keepers and springs. Only time I hate having 24 Valves!

I also got a little more of the bay stripped. Depending on a quote, I may be stripping the car completely down to take it in for paint. Going to have every part of the car sprayed for the color change to black. While the car is out for paint, I can put the motor together. :biglaugh:
