So after some work I finally finished my 2J cam swap in my 1J supra.... After a few delays I got everything running and for the price I paid for my cams all I can say is wow.
What started out to be a valve stem seal change turned into sourcing 2J cams and after some search on here I was able to get a hold of some.... So the parts I gather for the job where:
2J cams (Already grounded)
2J valve cover gasket from Toyota
28 2J cam bolts
Toyota FIPG
No. CPS sensor
1J valve stem seals from Toyota
1J Cam seals from Toyota
One Issue I ran into was the correct tools needed... But I was lucky and found someone on this forum that was nice enough to lend me all of the tools needed for the valve stem change:
Here's a few photos of parts being layed out:
One last set of photos:
So one thing I was happy about was the parts cleaner they had on site... I was able to clean up a lot of stuff before installing everything again. OVer all I'm really happy about these cams.... I love the fact that I have smooth idle and more pull and power... The most important thing is that I have much more top end pull, which is the 1J falls flat. One thing I did notice after the install is that my boost pressure dropped from 15 psi to 12 psi. I'm considering raising it back up but I'm worried about pushing the stock injectors too much. I got a hold of some 720cc injectors for free but I need to get them cleaned and flow tested as well as a 2J resistor pack. Any ideas on whether I'd have any issues pushing them to 15 psi with these cams? right now at WOT i'm at 10.9 AFRs so I have quite a good amount of range before leaning out much.
