There is a VERY easy solution to your last statement. DO IT YOURSELF. Then you have nobody to blame but yourself if anything goes wrong.

I dont take my car into a mechanic for ANYTHING except A/C capture. I dont even feel easy about letting a tire shop handle my wheels and tires, let alone anybody touching anything in the engine bay.

Once you invest in the tools and spend the time learning some of this stuff, the work is not hard. It takes an initial investment, but you could easily buy a set of decent tools and all the parts for well under what a shop would charge you. ;)

yup, cuz only you know your car more than anyone else..

i feel the same thing when i watch people drive my car (very very rare).. its like.. they arent doing it right.. know what i mean? lol

You guys think he is getting hosed? Well if he is paying a shop to do the work 2200 sounds about right. Depending on the labor, that can be 80-120 a hr. Then add in the mark up on parts, 2200 sounds right. When I bought my sup, I found a receipt from toyota that showed a $3000 + repair bill, for a BHG, and maintenance items.
