I was wondering if any mk3 or mk4 owners have had the chance to go up against the new gtr. I work with a guy who has one and I went for a ride last night after work and let me tell you that thing is a monster. I think he told me he was putting down 560 horses to the wheels. It makes me think, I dont how these guys that own 1000+ hp supras are able to drive them, honestly i would be afraid.

GTRs are said to come stock with 478hp by Nissan (not to the wheels), though Motortrend said when they tested one in June they came up with excess of 500hp (again, not at the wheels).....

Also it is supposedly alot of trouble to modify these cars and squeeze extra power out of them. I dont think he has 560 horses to the wheels....

Regardless, its a bad ass bitch for only ~$78,000. I would like to see a kill on this board also, but i think it would have to be from a roll.

Motortrend 'estimated' 500hp by 'estimating' drivetrain loss and calculating it from WHP.

There are bolt-on Cobra's beating them from a dig...

GT-R can be upgrade. Couple of folks over in the GT-R forum cutting 1.55 60'ft.

They are of course owned by "speed" shops so the warranty is out the door.

As far as WHP there all different. The motors are hand built which has been said to cause the huge differences in WHP between cars.

I come from a land down under
Watched one compete in Targa NZ yesterday on TV and the driver commented that it was the best/easiest race car he's ever driven.

It placed 4th against some very fast cars, it's all about intended use and seems to be a really good all rounder and well balanced.

right, but the calcs were done with a conservative 15% drivetrain loss...its probably not too far off.

not surprising, any car with the horsepower and traction can do it, especially with more cylinders. I think it would be tough for these cobras to turn in a better track time though (other than a straight line).

2009 GTR was eaten alive by a Supra (MkIv) with bolt-ons only here at a recent GTR Dyno Day.

I doubt the skyline got EATEN ALIVE because it was slower than that supra, the owner probably didn't want to get on it all that much, I'll tell you this though if I had a $80,000+ car I wouldn't wouldn't want to beat on it and launch it like a mad man just to win a pointless race...

It wasn't a race. If you read my post, I said it was at a dyno day ;)

And yes, the 2009 GTR was eaten alive by the MkIV with bolt-ons (as were all the other GTRS)

I love the way supra fans are quick to bag them out but the reality is they are a work of art and straight out of the box they not only go well but handle exceptionally.
Any sort of cut and chop job can make good quarters or dyno figures but on a track is where it really shines, hurry up toyota and make some competition for it.

Coming from someone who has seen many run at the drag strip...I am not impressed at all.

What a dumb statement! it was never designed to be a drag car..it was designed to be a track car and it does it very well.
Take the drag car from the strip and run it into a few hard corners at the same speed the nissan is capable of and watch what happens.
Use some common sense man.
