So when i first got my 89' it had a jdm swap. Motor had bout 30,000 on it all stock so i took valve covers off and retorqued the head to 75lbs. Was running a consistant 16lbs. (with all supporting mods) for months then turned it but to 20lbs. While tunning it for 20lbs my head gasket went (20lbs felt wonderful lol). So ive heard i can go with a factory head gasket with arps and be fine but ima pull the whole block any way to put a clutch in during this project so should i get my block decked and go with a metal hg instead?

My HG let go (Cometic MHG w/ ARP Studs) @ 18-20PSI a week or so ago on the freeway. Got off and was sitting at a red light then noticed the temp gauge starting to climb, oil in my coolant etc.

Rebuild is in progress...

looks like you have all the supporting mods to make some good power.

well looks like if you want to keep the 20psi, id say deck/ machine the head and the block, and a MHG then call it a day!

going with a stock hg will lead to another head gasket at that psi unless you got a really good tuner and a standalone to prevent any detonation, but i dont think a stock hg will last for to long at amount of power.

i was said sometime ago, that 18psi on stock HG w/ ARPs would hold. But that was the max on stock HG.

But if you don't have a MHG, then I would deff look into one. I'd go for an HKS Stopper if you wanna run over 500hp

91 octane. called couple machine shops to get price quotes. they said i had to pull my internals to get my block decked soooo not too sure if ima do that. machine expert adviced me to inspect the deck and see if theres any pitting, if so get it decked but if not im good to go. hope this was good advice!!!! now when it comes to metal head gaskets there different sizes. i know they say to keep track of how much the machine takes off but dm sells a 1.2mm hks one. will this be good or should i get a thicker one?

mhg are not forgiving you need an ra of less then 50 with cometic and even less with hks, etc.. dont waste your time and not deck it now bhg then do it again.. just do it right now so u dont have to touch it again.

the real question is do you feel like pulling it apart in a few months time to do the job properly? the poor man pays twice.

20psi on 91 octane means no head gasket in the world can save you.
