Ok so here's the deal, I picked up a 1989 turbo targa 5spd that needs an engine. The po checked all the fluids one day about 4-5 yrs ago and left the rad cap off and drove 50 miles till the engine died. The engine is hard to turn over with a 2 foot johnson bar....I have a buddy with an engine out of his car, it has a mhg and arp studs...been sitting for 1-2 yrs..turn over nicely though. I don't want to sink $$ into this thing, should I just throw the engine in, retorque it and put my stock injectors? Let me know what you guys think?? Thanks!!

Look, if you don't want to sink money in it search for a newer car. You won't take a 20+ year old car without having a money pit.

I know I will have to put some $$$ in....that doesn't answer my Q"s at all. maybe i should re-phrase the? I am willing to spend some$$ Just curious if I should swap the injectors for stock...retorque...and try it out?

No reason to swap out the injectors unless you go with a bigger turbo.

Make sure the engine can handle said upgrades by doing all the proper maintenance.

First things first, get the engine breathing better first.

If it has arps and mhg the engine should be ok if the compression and other things are all in order. Change your fluids. Run it a few hundred miles to see if everything is in order.

There's no reason to put 550s and a Lexus afm in the engine if you don't want the extra power

And make sure u let the engine breath before u mod it. Exhaust and intake. Maybe a Fmic and hard pipes would help too

.....So I'm an idiot...the engine that i am putting in has 550's in it....should I put the stockers back in for the stock afm and ecu?

If u want. A Lexus afm can be bought used on here or ebay for about 50 bucks. It will let build more boost and some more hp.

But if u don't have a exhaust or intake don't even bother just put the stocks back in it

No, it doesn't let you build more boost, it tricks the ecu into not seeing the extra air thus raising fuel cut.

OP, install a set of stock injectors with new o-rings. If your engine harness hasn't had the new ev1 clips put in, your 550cc's may not work anyways until you wire in the new clips.

Doing the lex/550 mod is useless on stock turbo.

What do you mean it's useless without a turbo. There a tons of people running 550s with a stock ct26. Of course it will have alot more hp with a 57 trim or 60 trim but I know plenty of people running on stock turbos... I wouldn't say it's pointless

Okay, the point of pushing the stock ct to 18 serves what purpose? Most say it's useless after 12 PSI. Stock fuel cut is near 12-13 PSI anyways.

The reason people run the lex/550 mod is to raise fuel cut, how many times must I say this? There is ZERO gains to running lex/550 mods on a stock engine, repeat ZERO. The gain is when you run a higher PSI, but the highest PSI for the stock ct26 is near 12/13 PSI which is, as said before, stock fuel cut limit.
