2 pinion vs 4 pinion

ok so according to this i have a 8"Ring with 4.30:1 Ratio with a 4 Pinion LSD

waht the hell is the difference between 4 or 2 pinion?? i thought diffs only had one pinion:aigo:

does it have somthing to do with number of bearings? i know it couldn't have 2 pinions let alone 4.

Indeed, also all A70 Supras are 4-pinion. (Save for vehicles equipped with a Torsen, and low-grade GA70's with 7.5" diffs)

well thats good, if i do a burnout(on dry pavement) she goes posi, but in the rain if i try to powerslide it somtimes slides, some times one tire fire, she kinda clunks shes old, haha, need re-shimmin?? haven't checked oil in the month i've owned her, never had big enough socket assuming 24mm no?? ALL my tools at work...long story. haven't seen many posts on diff's. please all the input. thanks. all i know is these damn cars go WAYYYY to faast, but under 3000RPM not much ACCRELATION. 4.30 wow there a high end car, like a chick with bleach blonde hair, 2 D's and a tight ass( no offence to the supra chicks out there


so how do you know if the rear end is worn out, dunno about toyota's but most lsd can be worn out.

Yes our Clutch style Diffs do wear out.

Quick and dirty test to see if it's an LSD is jack it up and turn the drive shaft by hand, if both wheels turn the same way it's an LSD if the turn opposite it's an open diff.

Keep in mind a totally stuffed one of either will do the opposite so it's NOT a 100% test. (only way to know for certain is pull the rear cover and look)

oh shes a LSD
shes got the LSd oil stick plus the AXLE code, plus a 3000 drop and pretty posi mark, and i jacked it up never turn drive shaft but turn either tire and both go same way, but under stess. i dunno the point where clutch starts "slippin"

is the drive shaft spin another test, i thought if both tire go the same way(when spinning one) its a lsd"posi" but neways it klunks cause its old ( on and off again hard in first) how do you know if it a burnt lsd, and whats a rebuild cost.

I noticed on a relatively new LSD ~80,000 miles on it takes around 80-90lbs of force when using two wrenches to spin each axle it own opposite direction. If its clunking try the ford heavy diff fluid if it still does clunk after new fluid try check a auto yard or one they are common out here for ~$45.

Also i think on the cygnus sight they have a TRSM that tells you how to check the lash shims etc to see if its good.

As a clutch pack LSD wears, it slowly acts more and more like an open diff. It takes less effort to overcome the friction of the clutch discs.

Even an LSD that is almost totally worn out can still act like an LSD if you jack it up and turn one wheel. You really do want to test how easily you can turn one without turning the other once you've confirmed it is an LSD. It should not be easy.

Most stock LSD's are going to be pretty worn by now, seeing as how they're almost or even older than 20 years now.

so if i drop the clutch at 3g, i guess its not a test.
how much to get new clutches(prolly rebuild i bet) shes 22 years old, but still runs better than i do.

ahh ok, shoudla had more attention to deatail. so you sayign in nesutral, on tire jacked up, i set a torgue wrecnh to 80lbs, it should click before it spins.
keep right tire on the ground?

In my case with fluid still in the diff & the diff completely removed from the car putting a wrench on each output shaft where the half shaft mounts they will resist spinning the opposite direction & not give in normal condition unit an estimated ~80-90lbs of force about half my body weight pushing down on it. this is a low milage LSD.

The reason I say this because I was appling this force in opposite directions not with one wheel fixed the force was on both axles.
