I am a complete noob, but sometimes a noob's opinion is good because I see it in more simple terms than you guys. And I wont say this because I did the 1JZ swap, but because it's a conclusion everyone can get by reading this thread.
1JZ swap - at least a couple/few thousand bucks cheaper than 2JZ swap. As someone stated, the 2JZ has more stock power, and more potential (duh!). Now, look what bigaaron stated ... 1JZ bolts into place, everything is easy to install, all stock parts fit in perfectly, easy swap, no complications, no custom stuff needed, it looks stock, mostly because it CAME stock in JZA70 cars. Now, the way I see it, it goes like this:
Even if you DO have the $$$ for the 2JZ swap... why not swap a stock-like 1JZ, and with all the $$$ you're saving, you can start modding it? I mean, people talk about "peak power" as if the 1JZ could only handle 300HP... but haven't I heard of people putting out even 500 or more on stock internals? What do you guys call "serious power"?? A 9 second car? ... Don't get fooled by the people who insist on saying that 2.5 liters isn't enough, that's crap! =)
