kind of off topic.... but why hasnt anyone swapped in a 3sgte? I believe the castrol toms supra has that motor built pretty stout. WAY lighter... excellent engine.... but its a 4 cyl.

There are alot of mr2 guys that build the shit out of those motors... and an mr2 doesnt weigh a hell of a lot less than a mKIII... slap a lighter engine in the MKIII and it would probably be really fun...

Again. I would like someone to prove it to me. I have had both motors with the same mods. I know what Im talking about. I bet you guys are talking from heresay.
So I say prove it to me.

I agree with you. In my opinion neither engines are better than each other. Untill someone prove it to me, i will stay undesided. I would much rather have a stock 1JZ than a Stock 7mgte.

280hp > 230-240hp.
I would too. lol.
But they both have their ups. Unfortunately I havent found a JZ down side yet.

Stop light to stop light, torque at the wheels owns. (MOTOR TORQUE * GEAR RATIO)
My toyota pickup with a 2.4 liter motor (cammed 10:1 22RE) will take off from a stop almost as quick as my buddies pontiac tempest with a 400-something ci motor, just because of the gear ratios. We calculated torque at the wheels and not surprisingly the pickup was close. Redline in 1st is right about 30mph though.

so you mean the fact that it you have to rev it high to spool and make good power and has no low end power on a 3400lb car is not con for street use? Or are we talking stock twins, even so a stock turbo 7m will still make more low end power.

And yes ive driven on the track and on the street zazzn's 500+ twin k26 1jz supra. And my own single turbo 7m to compare it with. And a bunch of turbo 2jzs. I stand by what i said. If you have more experience than that share it.

I can tell you my 7M had more more low end then my 1JZ did on stock twins. Same mods on both cars.
You dont need high RPM's to spool turbos. I agree my single spools a little slower, but it is no slouch my any means.
When you can prove to me its not a street wise set up I will shut up. Until you do, I will continue to think you talk out your ass. All the low revving v8's with 2x the tq then me seem to think the same as you until they get pulled on from light to light. . . . Even with my little 2.5l with a moderately sized single on it.
I dont care what you say. Stock for stock a 1JZ is still 40hp or so ahead of a 7M. If you dont think it makes a difference and tq is the only aspect, then god help you.

LOL, "then gold help you".

Stock for stock, it's not 40HP ahead, it's more like 50 Hp ahead. And for what I've read, those 280HP on the 1JZ are really more like "280", because they tend to dyno a little bit more than what a 280HP motor would? I think I heard bigaaron say this, and he works with this stuff.

No downlow power yet it still runs a 14 flat in the quarter, must not be that big of a deal?. That and zazzn's twin kit 1jz is not a fair comparison considering he has some laggy ass turbo's... get a ride in a twin gt28r supra and feel the difference.

seriously you 1jz guys are wierd sometimes. Yes quarter mile times are great, why theyre mentioned i dont know? The motor obviously makes less low end power due to its configuration. The reason it runs a 14 is because it makes up for it in top end.

A stock turbo 7m makes shitloads of low end. Infact thats why you see 300rwhp and 400rwtq dynos. But they run out of steam up top.

I like the 1jz and i said for a track motor its the best of the three (TRACK not drag), but for the street it feels like an s2000.

Mod for mod a 7m will always make more low end power. How can you deny that? Just as the 1jz will make more top end. The only reason its got 40hp more is because the twins push more cfms at a higher boost pressure.

I only mentioned zazzns because ive actually driven his and know how he's set it up, ive been in other 1jz cars that were much less impressive. Zazzns car is a fair comparison. HIs engine pulls to 9k and wants to keep going. Its a sick engine, with a lot of money dumped into the setup. So ide say its more than fair since it really shows what the motor is capable of.
