I want to go to a 1jz later myself, but I know their is no cheap and faster upgrades. It will probably cost me four or five thousand to do a swap with a five speed, and a headgasket can be fixed for a few hundred. I guess it's your choice to make. If you can afford it then I would go 1jz, but I would never go to a non turbo. Just my two cents worth. Good luck.

^^Agreed^^^. Properly replacing the HG on that 7m is a whole lot easier than swapping anything in there. Even easier, but more expensive would be to sell your car as is, and buying a 2jz car. Your call.

PD: BTW, what was your hg/ head bolt combo?

There are no advantages to a 1.5jz over a 2jz apparently.

anyways, shit happens, i hate to say you suck at working on the 7m. Or maybe its just bad luck? Either way you need to decide what you want regardless of engine problems. If youre going jz to escape the "inherint" probs of the 7m, youre in for a surprise.

1jz is weak on the street, best race motor. 2jz is a good balance, but 7m is the best for the street use. Unless you want 10000000 hp, which it seems everyone does in which case niether engine is "ideal"

Then do the job right next time.
Out of the 2 choices you gave I would do 1jz cause its boosted and it came in the MKIII so fitting it in there will be easier and more power for your money.

Cost. A boosted 3 liter, and the ease of running it off 1zj electronics. That was my main point, but true it wont give you any more power over the 2jz.

if you can get the 2jz for cheap go for it but be prepared for some wiring to say the least. the 1j is nice and since its already turbo makes a difference as with the 2jzNA you were looking at doesnt have the oil squirters and other parts that help with FI later down the road that you will need to add if you want to run higher boost pressures.

I vote for fixing it right the first time.

Between the other two, bigger is better.

Would you care to prove that theory on the street?
