Hi everyone the reason for my post is i need some advice from people that know about these swaps and cars. I bought my mk3 already with the 1jzgte swap i took it to a shop and did a single turbo upgrade(600 hp) wich came out good. Then i needed a aem standalone to support my mods went ahead and did that and now thats its tuned my motor and tranny went bad!!!!! so the guy at the shop said it would cost me around 7 k to completely rebuild my 1j or he is willing to swich it out for a built 7mgte with trany and install it for no extra cost in return for my whole set up. i have spent over 12k at this point and i dont know what to do if to go ahead and spend the 7k and make it right or not?? It has been a complete headache for me and i just want a fast reliable car where i dont have to keep on spending money into it. The 7m has forged piston,arp headstuds,hks metal head gasket,new water pump,new oil pump,new timingbelt,complete engine and head rebuilt basically brand new he says he can get about 350 to the wheels on it and its streetfast and no headache after its done. compared to the 1j witch is alot more maintance then the 7m. please give me your advice on what to do i will appreciate very much thankyou for helping.

Um... how about you specify what "went bad" means... For 7k grand you can build a nasty 1jz. If you can tell us what exactly went wrong, i bet we can help find a better route than what hes offering.

And hes just trying to rip you off by giving you a 7m and saying it will be less maintenance...

He's trying to screw you. Get the car out of there now and do it on your own with our help. Or give it to a mechanic one of us can vouch for. I can almost guarantee both your motor and tranny both didn't just "go" at the same time. And if they did an entire new motor and tranny would be around 2k, then you'd have a ton of stuff to sell off of it to make about a third of that back. With 600hp you don't need a built 1jz, just replace it with another stock one.

Swap that thing in like one night and drive it around until you can rebuild your "good" one. Need a piston or rod or anything? I feel so bad for you I'll give you one for the cost of ship if you need it. Then get your ducks ina row and hire a known good tuner to straighten that aem the hell out.

well when we was at his shop the car was running ok and he changed the oil in it to synthetic and i stared it up and thier was a little noise in the motor it came from the top of the head like som sort of knock. He told me i had problems it was smoking a little from the top as well, he priced me 4k for the rebuild and i agreed 2 weeks later he emails me this:

ok bro, i got ur money order today, ur sister put the wrong address so the 1st one got lost, thats probably y it never made it here!
I got an offer for ur car today for $5,500.00 but i turned it down...
ok, now the bad news is that ur going to need a complete engine overhaul!!!

u got problems with ur head, u got problems in ur block, u have 1 bad piston, and messed up piston rings, ur engine has major blow-by ( the smoke that u saw coming out from everywhere ) well, its getting worse and worse by the day! As for the block, it defenately needs to get work done to it, we need to put oversize pistons for sure!

ok as for the tranny goes, its on its way! if ur going to rebuild ur engine, i would say that u should rebuild ur tranny with it too! ( it will take a shit the second u get on it, i guarantee it! )

if u wanna make low horsepower ( around 250-300 ) then i recommend u should get my used tranny! so no matter what route u choose, either way u should get the tranny worked on! i now know what i need to start putting prices together for u so i will put together a price list for u for the stuff that ull need! as far as the block goes, i cannot give u an exact price right now until i have my machine shop look @ it...

1 last thing b4 i let u go! ur going to need a throttle cable, urs is too short ( 7M ) and u need an actual 1JZ one!

well the biggest issue is im in mexico out of the country and its hard for me to travel because of work. my project started in n.c. and the car was shipped to houston for the aem standalone.the shop said my compression went down when they wanted to raise the boost while in tuning the car so i needed to start saving for a new rebuild. so hes like just have fun with your car until the motor dyes. they dynoed it at 420 on a mustang dyno but the other guy that has the car now drove it and said that my car felt like 300 hp. now i just dont want to keep and keep on spending money on it. i just hate to have spend so much money on my setup for nothing.

Yea.... thats what you need.... an actual 1jz throttle cable.... He obviously has no clue what hes talking about. He, in no way, sounds honest at all. If you wanted reliable you should have put the money in a rebuild first before going single and standalone. But since your beyond that point, there is no way a rebuild would cost 7k unless you went top grade everything. You dont need that for what you want it for. You need a gasket kit, oversized pistons with rings, machine work, bearings for the crank and rods ,arp studs, oil pump and labor(if you cant do it yourself). I did the rebuild myself on mine so I'm not sure what a shop would charge but I know its not 7k. If you can ship it to houston from N.C., you can ship it to another shop in houston since its there. This guy is trying to rip you off. Listen to everyone else and take it to someone else and atleast get an estimate. And dont take it to any recomended shop by him.

I think jeff(the guy that sells toyota parts.... www.toyotaworld.com) is from houston. He has great prices on oem toyota parts and maybe he can recomend a shop to you. PM me if you want his contact info if you dont know him already. Or maybe someone on this site is from hoston and can help you out with a shop

Get any money back you gave him before he touches the car. Tell him nevermind. Do it politely or make up an excuse or he might take it out on the car since you're not there.

There is nothing good about this guy, go somewhere else.
