Yeah its BS. The 1jz will never put out higher torque numbers only cause of its displacement. There is no replacement for displacement...

My turbos are boosting like 15 pounds almost daily, if I decide to really romp on it. I then hit fuel cut at 1.1 - 1.2 BAR

All a bunch of BS so the people that are stck with 7M feel better.:biglaugh:

Joe has it right. People just are following the stereo types for engine. Look at a F1 V8 or V10. Do you think they have huge displacment. NO! i know they make up for it with RPM but thats the idea. The 1J Revs higher then the 7M.

Tq and HP its all in the numbers. When i can finally get my car dyno'ed i will. Just to give people a idea of stock power out of this engine. If people want to argue the machine then. They can do that all they want...lol

It isn't the amount of torque a JZ delivers, it is when it delivers that is the problem. Totally gutless, I saw them on the dyno at Vegas.

Gutless...LOL Have you driven one Nick?
How many of those 7m's were at the drags in Vegas?
Dave's 1jz was running 14.0 sec, it is totally stock, and it was the fastest mk3 there.

Bring your bpu 7m over to my place and we'll see how it does against my wife's stock 1jz with an auto trans.

Meh, the stock 1JZ-GTE has such a smooth powerband it makes the 7M-GTE look like a Honda motor.

Okay, just kidding, but seriously, the 1JZ-GTE is super smooth, compared to the 7M-GTE when you can feel a point at which you now have torque.

This is of course only a stock comparison. Once upgraded things change altogether.

See, at least Jeff has driven one before he comments on it.

There are so many 7m owners who talk all sorts of shit about the 1jz who have never even driven one.
After they have driven one they change their story, unless they are a liar.

I'm sorry but it just pisses me off. I was just driving the 1j tonight, and I am always impressed. I was power sliding it around every corner, going full throttle just to feel it pull, and getting it sideways up several freeway onramps. It is so responsive, and that torque comes on so much faster then the 7m.
It's not like I have no frame of reference. I have driven so many mk3's now (7m, 1jz, 2jz) with all different levels of modification, so when I hear someone spouting BS about the 1j it's like they are insulting my intelligence.

Yeah I had the opportunity to drive a RHD JZA70 TT-R for a few hours a month or so back, I usually just kept out of any discussions like this before that, but now that I have first hand experience, I figure I can chime in ;).

PS: It's not enough to make me swap out for a 1JZ though. I really like my 7M, though maybe for a 2JZ... hmm... ;)

Of course a fully modded 7m will outperform a 1jz, that is not in question.
The stock 1jz is a great engine, period. There is no questioning that. Is it the best engine for you? That is obviously up to you.

The point is that if you can't appreciate the performance of the 1jz in some way, you are not a true car guy, because the merits it does have are so obvious.

Yeah, I loved every minute of driving that 1JZ-equipped car. It's a fantastic engine.

My 7m will be yanked in favour of a 2jz when it goes...no sense in stopping at the 1jz... :p

;)

Looks like the 7m in your sig is making substantially less tq then hp :biglaugh: Not that those numbers are bad, but in this thread it's kind of ironic to see that.

The comment about when the 1JZ delivers it's torque is not an issue if you understand how to drive with that engine. If you expect it to be a 7M well then of course you are not going to get the performance you want. But that would be like trying to drive a F1 Car on the street and then say it's crap cause it can't put the power down. plus it's a torquless wonder. LOL it has to rev high tak use the engine properly. Ever Drive an S2000 it is in the same type of boat its about using the eninge and understanding how to use the Revs and momentum of the car to your full advantage
