I just recieved a phone call from a guy I used to work with and he said that he has a 1jz long block for sale and he would give it to me a a great price or he is going to throw it away. Now I am not really a 1jz guy, not that I have anything agaist it, I am just in the middle of a 7m build. My question is what is a 1jz lock block worth? I don't have much history on the motor and I don't think he does either. I believe he bought i from a place the imports engines and I don't trust them when they say it only has 60,000 miles on it. I would really hate to see a 1jz go to waste for no reason, so if anything I will buy it from him and then sell it to someone for a good price.

Is it the long block or is is the complete swap (harness, ecu, etc)? The complete swaps seem to go for $900-$1200(I'm looking for one myself) If it's the complete swap I might be interested in it, if you even want to go the resell route. Even it its the motor and the price is good enough you could still resell for some cash.

It is just a long block. Wow, a complete swap $1200!! So what is the long block worth? If the complete swap is worth only $1200 then the long block isn't worth much by itself. The deal he is offering me may not be all that great after all.

600$ or around there for a long block i think is the going price... usually you would buy them if you already have a 1jz in your car

front clips are a bit over 2000 ( i think i usually see them for 2500 )

i feel if you are going to throw away or sell it... he can just give it to you for free :D

Well I just talked to him a few minutes ago and he offered to give me a MKIII shell plus the long block but I don't think I am going to do it, because if long blocks are only going for $600 then there isn't much profit in it for me and if I did decide to but the 1jz in the MKIII shell it would still cost me an arm and a leg to gather all of the other parts needed for the swap. well it looks like he may just be throwing it away after all.

I sold a long block with no turbos for $475. That was pretty cheap, but the motors are not worth much. Another reason to swap if you ask me. Once the intial swap cost is done, ownership costs are next to nothing if you grenade the motor.

I am still new to the 1jz world so I looking up prices for the rest of the parts I would need. Can some direct me to a complete list of the parts I need and possibly the best places to look for stock parts

thats so stupid! i hate people like that...well not hate, but they annoy the shit outta me.

"i'll sell for $600.00...but if you dont want it i'll throw it away" a profit is a profit.

i would at least part it out on ebay.

Most of the items can be found on here or Champion Toyota.

BIC Mounts if your car has the older non-round mount crossmember
2J throttle cable
2J PS hose
1J harness
1J ECU
(Or you can run a 2J harness and ECU out of an Ariso or MKIV Supra)
ignitor
map sensor
1J Bellhousing
1J Flywheel
Hydro fan or 2J waterpump and clutch fan.

You are better off getting a front clip if you are going to do the swap.

They can be found at that price if you try, ebay is a good place, I actually found a guy on craigslist who was getting out of the JDM motor business and picked up an 1J R154 swap for $650. Said I could have a complete 2J swap for $1400.

It can be done, just takes work.

R154 with a JZ bellhousing for $650??

A complete 2j swap for 1400, see now thats just ridiculous..

Ebay and craigslist are not on the top of my list for trusted places to purchase swaps from either. Though with proof I'd believe your claims, which at this point I still do not AT ALL.

Fair enough, i'm still deciding on the 2J, but I do have the R154 with the 1J bell housing/clutch/flywheel. I'll snap a few pics in a few since you don't want to believe me.
