It's alllllllll good! 7M flaws are easily overcome, and parts are easier to come by. I will have some sort of 2jz project in the future, just cuz I like to try different things.

I get so frusterated when the first comparison someone uses with 7M vs. 1JZ is that the 7M has head gasket problems and 1JZ has ____ blah ____ blah ____ blah.

If someone is seriously considering doing a 1JZ swap, then they are more than likely getting it to race and what not...well, with a 7M, getting a new HG and getting retorqued should be a give-a-way. If you don't want to spend the money to have a new headgasket put on, then don't get a 1J because when all is said and done, you'll have spend A LOT more money.

Don't get me wrong though, there is no hate on a 1J...I just prefer 7M Powah;)...and TORQUE. :D

Most of these post I agree with but like IJ says and I agree with the most is if your gonna swap go 2JZ and b done with it. Right now I'm just trying to get my 7M right to run reliably on 11#s of boost.

New HG and cooling system. It should hold me for the next couple of years and in the meantime I will put some cake aside for the 2J while running on 7M powah as boost Lee says. Please believe once u get the 1J u will want the 2J next.

Make sure u source a timing light and set your timing as per the TSRM or you will b kicking yourself later. Most essential part when repositioning the CPS.:icon_bigg

2jz definitely. But if I had to choose between a 7m or 1jz. I'd take the 1jz in a heartbeat. The 1jz's dont have the head gasket problems that the 7m's seem to have and there is a HUGE aftermarket for the 1jz engine.

2jz is the newer engine and rev a lot harder. Either one you get you will not be dissapointed. On my 7MGTE i've got a new headgasket put on and that solves the issue of the 7M Headgasket issue.

1jz ripp, but personally I prefer the torque lower end that you get from a 3litre.

Also 1jz's are known to have their twin turbo's go rather shortly in their life. If you can get your hands on a 97 Soarer VVTi 1jz with a single turbo i'd do what I could to get my hands on it :).

A lot of people also do 1.5j setups with a 1jz block and a 2jz head, makes them rev a lot harder apparently. But all options cost $$$$ so thats the biggest factor.

speak for yourself. What do I need a 2J for? The only 2J I'll ever have will be in a MKIV. the power figures I want with my car can be easily accomplished with a 1J when my bank account allows. And as long as preference goes, I like the power delivery of the 1J better than both 7M and 2J with stock turbos. I almost don't want to upgrade to single because the stock twins are so much fun and I don't even have many mods on it yet. Maybe I'll just build another JZA70 for a single turbo or soemthing.

In no way have I ever seen the 1J as a stepping stone.

same here. I wanted to go single, but it is so responsive and the thottle is so nice to modulate with the twins. Now I've changed my plans and I'm going to get one of those ported CT12a's with the steel wheels.

Hes not selling the clip for $1500. He was just stating it would save you $1500 if you were to get the soarer clip.

:biglaugh: I was saying that a automatic Soarer clip usually needs about $1500 in parts on top of the price of the clip to make it work in a 5 speed Supra, which is what shady sellers sell dirt cheap on ebay to people with Supras.
No reputable seller is letting 1jz 5 speed Supra clips go for anywhere near $1500.
But I have heard from lots of people who were duped into buying something that will not work for them.

I'm looking into them as well.

By the way, if you're refering to the Ebay/Aussie CT-12s, they aren't ported per se. I emailed the guy, and he said that they're ported at the factory, so they are the same as your stock twins except they have steel turbines.
