1jz or 2jz which is more reliable?

i would love to get a 2jz but its too expensive. I was told that every all together including labor would add up to about $8000

Lmao! 7m as long as you don't beat on it very reliable, been all over MS to NM too many times to count. Course if your in a situation where you need to rebuild a 7m then thats different story.

totally depends on driver/maint.

I love both 7m & 2j. also have love for someones blue 1jz.

justin has a good point; 2j is best of both worlds.

1jz reliability, economy, foolproofness with 7M torque, useable power band and manly-er sound.

and that 4000-5000 figure for a 1jz swap is IF You do your own work. i know a guy whos coming to me for help after 4 years and $10,000 invested in an incomplete 89 NA to 1j swap.

to answer the reliability question. i've heard one jays are a lot more reliable and you can easily make a lot more power without worries as long as it's done right... but i guess "as long as it's done right", that's true about any engine.

I have 307,000 miles on my 7m-gte (never been rebuild)and all I can tell you is that if you are good to your car it will be good to you =D

I drive a 7MGTE every day. I agree that maintained correctly it will be fine. My father has a 100% stock 89 Turbo, He has not done anything to the engine. He changes the oil when he should. He drives it at least 85% of the time and has no problem. (he has a few cars).

ive had a 7mgte, 7mge, and a 2jzge. i gave them all alot of abuse and took them on long trips. the only one that gave me the most problems was 7mge only because of things i did, not design flaws. i think you should go with whats in your budget, but a 4 cylinder is always a great dd that usually gets good gas mileage.

4-5 hours?

I was doing 20+ odd hours non stop save to refuel at 200k+ miles! ;)

the engine (which ever it is) is only as reliable as the maintanace done to it. Don't take care of it and it will fail. Quite simple :)

It still blows me away how so many retards try doubling there horsepower on a 15-20 year old high milage engine with unknown maintanance. And then they cry about rod knock and swap engines.

I can tell you that from 5 years of beating on a rebuilt stock internalled 7M, they have only one flaw that's fixable (yep HG). Not rodknock. I even ran my oil low a few times. I also made about 10 1/4 mile passes with a broken fuel pressure regulator (running 20 psi on a CT-26 upgrade). Hit 29 psi a few times on accident with my 61- Still couldn't kill it.
