How do you remove the lower oil pan with the engine in the car? Do you have to lower the x-member as per the TSRM or is there another way?

No it's doable with the engine in the car but not fun...They're all 10mm bolts and all are easy to get except the last 3 or 4.

You'll have to loosen and remove the nuts holding the motor mounts in and either jack up the front of the motor or use a hoist and raise it up to get to the last like 3 bolts at the front of the pan. I used my floor jack with blocks of wood on it, make sure they are skinny enough to clear the sway bar and crossmember but make contact with the upper pan just behind the crank pulley.

I've had to do it twice and am going to have to do it again b/c I broke the last fucking bolt, BE CAREFUL with them, I broke it not even trying to tighten it down that hard with a 1/4" ratchet.

Also the last time I did this I jacked the motor up so far the mounts came out of their saddles and I had to use a hoist to put the motor back in properly no biggie but if you don't know someone with a hoist, it's something keep in mind and watch for.

If you do it, and come up with some easier ways to do it, let me know I'm not really looking forward to doing again.

IT'S NOT THAT BAD!

Yes, you need to undo your motor mounts, and raise your motor up a few inches (or as far as it will go), but it's not THAT bad.

You CAN actually do it without raising the motor, but i's way more trouble than it's worth. Raise it up, and be happy.

You can actually remove the ENTIRE oil pan this way. I did the whole pan in about 2 hours.

As in the upper and lower...really, damn I was looking at that last time I under there thinking at least I don't have to pull the upper fucking pan off.

What they said... Jack up the motor, undo the lower motor mount nuts.

What you really need is a 1/4" 10mm with the universal joint built in. I borrowed that from the shop next door and it made the job a snap.

We did one for a customer, only charged about $100 labor out the door and I was pleased with the time spent.

is there a difference with more room around the subframe on the SC300? when i did this on my car, id need the hands of a 10 year old to get into the small spaces

I think so... The difference between an SC engine bay and an A70 engine bay is like a swimming pool to a bath tub.:biglaugh:

Dealership. 1JZ and 2JZ share the same pan. You'll probably just need the lower part.

Might be cheaper to just hammer the pan out though.

well I have my turbo's off my car right now and i'm going to change the oil before i put them back on anyway. U think i should just hammer it out? Does it really matter the shape as long as it clears the crank?
