1JZ Hydro Lock

So i was driving my nice 88 1j, doing about 45 just cruising when i hear a small back fire. Car seemed fine then when i went to hit the gas pedel it acts like its going to die. I knew somthing was wrong so i pushed the clutch in and began to coast off the side of the road. as i was coasting the car shut its self off. I tried to start it just once after i stopped and white smock blew out the tail pipe. didnt try again.

Had it towed to the mechanic the next morning and he tell me that 2 of the cylinders wre full of gas and that my oil had mixed with gas.

We drained out all the gas and it runs fine now. Anyone got any ideas as why it happend.

Have you checked/changed the oil since?
Compression/leak down tests, coolant test?

This is just a guess, but I lost a 2jz-ge once to hydro lock because the 4th cylinder injector fired constantly and flooded it. The cause was a bad ECU. If your car doesn't have any fuel mods that could cause this, I would check the ECU first.

Fuel can only enter the CC via the injector. So thinking about it (and I'm no expert) either the injector go stuck open or the ECU had some sort of malfunction keeping the injector open.

Reading above, (and several other threads) what is most likely, something (like what homeskillet said) is wrong inside the ECU. Common problem with them is the leaky / bad caps in side of them. It wouldn't be a bad Idea to send it out to have it inspected and repaired (if needed) just to double check everything because of the common problems with the caps.

Mine almost did the same thing. I had bad caps. Since the ECU is batch fire can you tell us which cylinders were full of fuel? More than most likely if they are in the same batch fire you have a cap issue within the ECU. Just take apart your ECU and look at the caps on the injector circuits.
