I'm just after getting a 1jz and I'm putting it in a NIssan 200sx (240sx in the US). I'm doing a bit of work to the engine before it goes in, replacing all the gaskets, full service etc. Most likely I'll be putting arp bolts in the top end and possibly the rods aswell as I've heard they're not the best in the world and while the engine is out, I might aswell do them.

My main questions is, what are the stock headgaskets like? I've done a bit of reading and I know they're steel and possibly reuseable, although I'm getting a new one with the engine gasket set anyway, so the reuseable part does't bother me for now.

Basically what I'm asking is what power are they good for?

Pistons etc will be left stock so no over boring on the cylinders etc.

Is there anything else I should be doing or looking out for?

Martin.

Exactly what I was thinking, my small toe makes more torque. I think I should've stuck with the SR20DET.

Only joking. I'm sure it was a decent figure.

I'm sure most people like the 1j becasue its an easy engine to get loads of power out of.

For the moment its going in completely stock but when funds allow I'll be going for management, big cams, the biggest injectors I can find, hopefully 1600cc or bigger, or maybe twin injectors (I'll be running e85 eventually) and a nice big single turbo.

Power, yum!

How much power do you plan on making, because 1600+cc is stoopid over kill and will %#*! up the off boost manners of your car....

No, just e85. I've a friend running 1600cc's on a sr22det making 500whp and he's running around 70%. I'm aiming for around 600whp so should be up around the same numbers.

No, it won't be the same. 1cc(ish)/1hp(ish)

Funny I was running nismo 740cc's on my sr20 and making around 350bhp at 65% on 95ron.

Either way I'd rather buy the 1600 and know it'll suit than buy a 800 and end up having to replace them as they're too small.
