1JZ: Guys with HKS DLI

I need to upgrade my ignition system, but have a few questions.
Which HKS DLI do you guys use? Universal one?
And which one should I use? HKS DLI 2 or the original one?

you would need the DLI 1 unit, i would look for the newer generation one as it is a little more resistant to moisture; newer gens have the red and black logo. The DLI 2 unit is for cars that have direct ignitions and or internal igniters and coils. The 1jzgte and 2jzgte are separate coils and ignitor.

I have one & i have no idea which one i have..... I know it's wired into my AEM.... I think Sound Performace used the MKIV application.

yes because on a 1jzgte the ignitor is a separate unit. Then the coil packs are on engine. DLI 2 is for cars like the mazda rx8 and subaru wrx.

How do you know when you need to upgrade your ignition system? I thought the stock ignition was quite sufficient?

Wouldnt you just gap your plugs smaller? Or is there a disadvantage to this?

Here's a good example. This is me at a local track. Don't mind the crappy run, no burnout and I bogged bad.

You can hear my car missing on top of 2nd and 3rd gears, thats why I lost out on trap speed. Should have been 120+ mph, this is also on low boost and pump gas.

its just a matter of when the coil fires there is too much resistence in the plug due to the thicker atmospheare in the combustion chamber, and the stock ignitor and coils cannot overcome the added load.
I have had old coils that do the same thing. You might want to do new coilpacks and a dli to solve the entire problem. I have a new set of coils fyi:icon_bigg

What are your plugs gapped too? I am running NGK 6097's gapped to 0.025 and at 17 psi my plugs are getting blown out as well. I might need to upgrade to the HKS system as well.

I'm also using 6097s at 0.028" and my coils are brand new.

try using ngk bkr7es

if you have new coils you should not have this problem.
check cam sensors too for oil in the plug(bad on 1jzs)
and dont run irridiums.

BKR7ES = 6097's.

Have you tried bringing your plug gap down to 0.025?

If I remember correctly, you should also be able to run a DIS-6 box and also take advantage of the 2 step.
