Alright, so I'm new to this forum and I've got a 1JZ sitting in my garage. I've slowly been finding info on it but would like to tear it down! I need to know torque specification so I can put it back together right. I'd like to know the torque specification for as many of the bolts as you guys can tell me!!!

how many miles are on it??? i wouldn't tear it down just to see how it works

go to http://www.howstuffworks.com/engine.htm and read

dont tear it down unless you know its got rod knock....cracked piston...bad rings.

get ahold of Odomd. I know he tore his down to give it a once over. He should know where to get the torque specs.

Yeh i'll dig them out tonight. In my opinion with any engine already out you should at least inspect the crank and rod bearings and re torque them along with new gaskets and seals. But like i said just another opinion.

That's what I wanted to do is replace the gaskets and the little bit of oil that was left in it when I got it was pretty dark!!

:1zhelp: Well now I'm having a bit more of a problem!!! I've been trying to pull the engine apart and there seems to be a million hoses. I'm currently taking the intake manifold off and I'm afraid to disconnect most of the hoses cuz I don't know what they do!!!

Alright, so I've got it pretty much torn down. I was thinking of cleaning everything, would it help to let some of the pieces soak and would I just soak it in plain water or should I add something to it???

don't soak the parts in water.

break cleaner for all metal parts.

soapy water for plastic pieces.

It would probably be a better idea to sell the engine but than I would have a supra sitting in my driveway with no engine!

Ok, after the parts have soaked for a while in the break cleaner do I rinse the break cleaner off with anything? And I'm talking about cleaning out the intake manifold and exhaust manifold to so would I use break cleaner for that also? (I must sound like an idiot!)

break cleaner will eventually evaporate. Might want to hit the parts with some type of lubricant engine oil, WD40 etc.

Personally I would use intake/carb cleaner myself. Than after you scrub them down I would use some brake cleaner and compressed air to completely dry them off.

Like ^^^ said brake cleaner evaporates very well.
