so i need some advice on a cooling issue. i've been driving my car around for about a month now usally at night. the car runs at ~185 untill i get on a a few times then pretty consistant 190-195. today i was driving on the highway and it was hot out about 92degrees. on the highway my car was up to 200 degrees then spiked to about 208. when i got home i shut off and looked for leaks but there was none. i turned her back on and the temp was at 230! but i had turned it off when it was at 200? anyways the cars temp fell quick after i turned it on but i noticed quite a bit of water returning to the overflow tank.

do you guys think i need a better fan?
what should the running temp be?

my radiator is a new godspeed all aluminum with water, water wetter and 15% coolant.
i have a large fan *in front* of the radiator.
new water pump, thermostat, rad hoses.
engine is stock at stock boost

thanks

Bleed the system? and your cars the hottest when you shut the engine off, no more water pump to push the coolant through the rad. so it soaks up the heat off the engine and doesnt get cooled

its probably your fan setup. get a spal dual fan and use it as a puller fan. it should really help out your setup

p.s. how do you like the 1jz in the s chassis??

oh damn just saw that your fan is pushing air. Change it, have it pull it through the rad and get a shroud

Listen dude, I also have a J in my s14. I was having quite a few cooling issues during the first few weeks of my car running.

From experience

Get a temperature control switch and have it setup with a relay, so it shuts off when the car goes off, if not you'll drain your battery (my optima was drained within the first few weeks)...Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with FAL fans, so im going to tell you to stay away lol...I picked up a set of Murrays brand fans for a little under $300 and they flow better than the FAL's (@ 2600cfm's)...and my car has been straight since...

Sorry to bump the thread but can you guys not use stock mechanical 1jz/2jz Fans? Its been proven and even on the Nissan Boards there's a sticky where they did a test on it and proved the stock mechanical fan setup cools the best.

there is no room for the clutch fan. even the slimmest electric fans barely fit. It gets pretty tight in the front when you a have an inline on a s chassis

Best fan i have seen with the 1J and does not eat up too much room is the hydro fan

Don't know if there is enough room in the S14 bay for the pump but it is a great setup.

if you can't though Make sure what ever fan you pick it has a high static pressure and put it as a pull with a fan shroud
