hahah no im not suggesting everyone with a tough 7m throw down a challenge but someone who has a 7m with similar mods to the 1jz that at least looks after it and has it tuned. Then of course do it in a controlled environment, and it would make for a great comparisson.

Im willing to use my 1jz supra in aus and video it, if someone else over here wants to give me a run with a decent 7m.........i own both but i cant drive both.:biglaugh:

I'll do it :)
What have you had done to the 1j?

Mate that sounds great :)
I'm also at 14psi but I've got a "turbo A" ct26, 550's, SAFC-2, front mount and a 3 inch exhaust.
We should also get Dan to join the fun.

Actually i think its great, its definatly not a war. ive wanted to try and get a close comparisson test for while to see the differences in both motors realtime. Its very hard to get a proper side by side run that doesnt have one car advantaged over the other.

hey les im a little concerned about you running 550's, upgraded ct 26, and im guessing a lexus afm? you should have at least 50 hp on a stock 1jz.
Should still be close.

well i own a 1jz jza70 manual and a 7mgte manual, i prefer the 7m probably becuase of the torque, you know your in a 3 litre when you drive it,

not biased at all, but the 7m does seem like the daddy motor

Speaking of drags.... Here's a link to sf.com.au's A70 drag racing results page...

http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=18424

you'll note that the number 1 time goes to a 2jz, 2 and 3 go to (fairly wild) 7m's and 4th is a 1jz.... the results so far are a pretty even mix of 1jz's and 7m's, with no real patterns developing...

as much as i would dearly love to say that the 1jz is a far superior motor and kicks the 7m's ass.... i can't say it based on those results... and i can't really go the other way either, the quickest 7m and 1jz are only 0.23 seconds apart, not really enough to say either engine has a distinct advantage...

If his sparkplug was loose couldn't that have caused the cylinder not to fire, and doesn't a misfire sometimes cause rod knock to happen? IDK I know of a v8 that didn't fire a few times in it's number 5 cylinder and it ended up dropping parts into the pan.

haha... so true...

at the end of the day, all 3 are pretty decent motors...

i've got a 1jz and there are times i wish toyota had delivered it with a single ct26 hanging off the side instead of that d*mned twin turbo setup...

Stock for stock, 1J wins.

Once mods come into play, it's anyone's game, but I haven't seen 4 digit numbers from a 1J yet...
