How much work or money. Expect to pay around 4k for a non half assed 1j swap.

Prolly wouldn't cost much to fix the 7m either. But throwing parts and guessing is not going to help.

If you have questions post in the 7mgte tech section and I'm sure you could get it figured out. 1jz swap is not plug and Play but close but needs certain expensive parts.

How much work will be an entire motor swap plus some extra so long as the motor you bought was good and not needig a rebuild.

If you buy just a 1JZ motor and tranny you'll need alot of other things, and alot of time to put it in and figure out the problems once it's in (sometimes there are no problems after a swap, but you're more likely to win the lottery). If your 7M isn't completely trashed just fix it. Do it right though, or you'll just end up wasting money and ending up unhappy. How to fix a 7M "right" has been covered here so much it's probably hiding somewhere on the screen right now.

Hey thanks guys. I really want the 7m motor to run. I like that motor. I probably will mess with the 7m motor . I guess I will have to learn patience. Lol I will do some more reading on here.

The wiring is a bitch. I have done it before and It is not fun, not to mention when your friend decides to use aftermarket injectors that are stuck closed. You can use the stock R154 tranny. But in order to get your Tach to work right you need to limit the current heading out of the Igniter. I would say save yourself the headache and just fix your 7M it does have potential.

The tach only becomes a problem if your car is a n/a car. Can change the resistor, get a tach adapter, or switch to a turbo tach. Easy fix.

as hvyman stated, the thing that most people don't realize is that it gets expensive really fast.. 4k is an understatement as far as I'm concerned, though he was just saying that's really the cheapest one can go before cutting corners, but in reality it's a lot more than that from what I've experienced. there's always a variety of factors , so..

I spent a little over 3k. Maybe 3300. That was a running swap but i did everything my self. Wiring, installation, everything. I also found some deals on parts. But im also still spending money on it to make it better and faster and cleaner.

All depends on what you want and how much your willing to spend.

Dylan is spot on tho it does get really expensive really fast.

Thank god, I thought I was the only crazy person who thought sub $4k was easily doable if you do all the work. My 2JZ swap was around $4,100 and a buddy, who I helped swap in a 1JZ, is somewhere in the low $3k range if not sub $3k. We both already had aftermarket intercoolers with 7M piping that we modified which i'm sure helped keep it cheap.

Ya the only thing stopping me from a 2jz was like 700 for the engine and i didnt want to bang the firewall so that would have been all the money for a the single as well.

The 1jz is a great motor but like these guys have said it gets spendy. Mine was around 4000 and I had the wiring done by a local shop. Yours being a 88 would need more work to get it in there. the mounts a subframe are differant.
