Besides going with a standalone, what alternatives are there to increasing my rev limit to ~7500rpms?

This is on a Soarer harness/ecu.

Modded ECU. Blitz, Mine's, etc.

Some are higher than others.

My Mine's is at around 7700. My last Stealth ECU, didn't have a limiter and I ran it up to 8k.

I don't know how easy modded soarer ECUs are to find though.

Its either standalone, or a mines type ecu.

Most ''mines type ecu's'' are for the Supras, and thats when you can find them. I'm working with an sc400/Soarer 1J setup

Is there any company that works with reflashing or reprogramming the ecu's?

Mine's can still do reflashes IIRC, but the cost is so high, you could just buy a standalone instead. And you'd have to wait and send it to Japan and get it back.

Keep your eyes on ebay, me thinks. Soarer ECUs pop up every now and then. I've seen them before.

The 1j dies out around 6500 because of the stock cams.

Aftermarket cams can have the 1j revving well into 7k+ making power.

Even still, revving higher can land you in the sweet spot on the upshift.

I commonly rev my car to 7500-7700. The following gear hits nice. That doesn't really matter much on stock twins though.

Not having a rev limit at all doesn't really seem to matter anymore than having a high one. Rev limiter won't stop a mechanical overrev from a missed shift. And if you're asleep at the wheel and keep revving past the safe point, you(not you specifically) probably deserve to blow it up anyway. I didn't have any issues with my Stealth ECU that had no limit.

Ok, so mine has no rev limit, but seriously, unless you have totally modified the engine, why the hell would you want no rev limit. I really wish i did have one. The 1j without a 2j bottom runs out of hp at like 6500 rpm. Why would you go higher? You can go with bc cams or others, i guess i understand in those cases. But for most people there is no reason for loosing a nice safety feature like that.

NOT TRUE.... 1j does not die after 6500.....You can rev a stock 1j to 8000 and power will not die. Power dies becuase of the turbo and tuning you are using. In theory, yes stock cams might do that. But we've done it time and time again, where by using a right fitted turbo powerband hold strong til' redline.

That's not me saying that, it's my dyno sheet. At no point does my powerband even come down. The bulk of my power is between 6300-7200(redline)

Please show your maps, all of the stock cam maps that i have seen have shown it pretty much completely die at about 6200. I still would like to have a rev limit of some sort. None scares me.

aftermarket cams can go way higher before power falls.

i have a mines with an 8k rpm rev-limit. I don't think I'll have it much longer though. I'm selling it, and I'm going 2j

on my stock motor, power and torque would drop off drastically after 6300rpm

on my stock motor with tuned standalone, power pretty much levelled off around 6300 rather than dropping.

on my stock motor with tuned standalone and cams, torque kept climbing until just over 7000 where it levelled off. at 7500 where I had set my rev-limit, torque was still level, and power was obviously still rising.

It's a combination of tune, cams, and turbos. Cams being one of the easier to modify though.

Rakkasan timing is Implied when I mentioned tuning, however on my setup, I have stock timing.

Viper, I agree. I like my rev limiter.... I am trigger happy, i'll rev this puppy til 15k if I could.

So someone mentioned something about a soarer ECU. So are there rev limits higher than the mkIII 1jz computer???

No or at least in my case is nope. I am at 7200 which is the same as the jza70(supra). Sometimes my SAFC 2 will read 7800. I guess that when it bounces of the rev limit. The ecu stops the revs but the engine has inertia
so the safc will read much higher.

i have a mines soarer ecu no fuel, boost, speed cut no rev limiter ( that i know of been to 8000rpm's a few times) and the timing map is more aggressive.
