Okay,
I just finished this in my car.
The 1G Tach works with the 1jz setup. It is exactly the same as I checked the circuitry as well. resistors and the diodes are the same. I had one in my car but it was not running.
I checked it out today and the reason it was not working was because the "EARTH/Ground screw was missing from the back of the cluster .It appears the pevious owner didn't finish this as well upon other things.

It ranges from 6800 - 9000rpm redline...which is pretty nice. :)

All in all, it is a direct replacement for the 7m and 1jz tach.
pictures and shoret video will folow after I come back from my jog.

That's cool. Answer me one question that's been bugging me. What is that shiny part at the very bottom of the tach?

BTW, you HAVE to hook up the "Turbo" light :)

The shiny part you talking about...is it the one that is held with two screws? That is just a bracket.

I am not sure where to get that "Turbo" signal from or else I would hook it up.Would be fun to see it light up lol

on the front, below the "x1000r/min", that shiny part.

As for the TURBO LED, the sensor for the gauge sends out a 0-5v signal. You gould tap into that. The LED would glow more and more as the boost increases. Change the value of the resistor in-line, and you can change at what pressure the LED turns on. Or, you could buy a Hobbs(sp) switch to turn on the LED (It's a switch that activates at a set pressure).

I think you are talking about the Airbag warning . When it lights up , it reads airbag. In these cars, that was the light for airbags. Is that what you talking about?
That is the only shiny thing I can think of..

I looked at the gauge again today. There are no leds at present for the Turbo warning. Thanks for that voltage reference . i was thinking about the Boost signal for that light..maybe tomorrow I will get an led for that... just for shits and giggles.
I got a better video up now..

It's an airbag warning? That makes sense. Yeah, that's exactly what I was talking about. I always wondered, but I don't have airbags, so I've never seen it.

Good luck with the light thing.

I thought about buying a pill and making it RPM activated. Stockish shift light, kinda like what some cars have today installed.

yeah, these cars had airbag light on the tach. 7ms have it in another location.

I'm aware of how old this thread is, but this should be updated!

Have you added an led or done anything with the TURBO spot on the tach yet? What did you use it for?

Nope..left the hole as is...
it can be used as a alarm indicator
