1992 plymouth van = trans problem

A friend of mine has that van and the trans went out while driving. The motor would rev but the van wouldnt move in any gear.

A shop wants 1700$ to rebuild the trans, is that a good deal?? I think its nuts for that van lol but I dont know...

I dont know the exact model van but it has a a406 trans.

$1,700 is reasonable for that POS tranny. Put it in then sell the van. Seriously, those transmissions are shit. My dad had 2 replaced under warranty in his 00 Town & Country. No lie.

The shop is going to do a 1year warranty - unlimited miles. I guess its all too late anyways, friend already paid to get it done so no going back now.

Im surprised the trans is rebuildable!! Usually when those transmissions go they crack the case. Yes those vans are a POS!! And in my opinion its not worth it because the van is probibly only worth about $2000 anyway, if your lucky.

the vans over all arent that bad but yet the trans suck hardcore! rebuild it and let it ride as long as you dont mind rebuilding the tranny every few years

I've got a 94 Acclaim, I think it has the same tranny. Super shitty. 24k on a rebuild, never run low on tranny fluid, never overheated it, already having issues. POS Chrysler transmission.

Tough body and motor, though.

For a '92 van, I'd sell it and get something else. I certainly wouldn't pay $1700 for it to be honest, and even if you get a junkyard trans to pass the time, it will most definitely brake down again.

I said pull a junkyard trans to get it running, sell the van for $1700 at least. Then take the $1700 from the van plus the trans money and get something else.

Like I said though, too late the money is paid for the rebuild. Some times I wonder why admittedly know nothing car people ask me questions then totally ignore my(collective) advice.

That generation of ALL the Daimler vehicles have really crummy trannys that'll just go after a while. They told you that you weren't supposed to have to change the filter, but apparently that's what caused all the problems. I've got a 94 Grand Voyager and I have to put a quart in like every 1000mi. But CK's right, that van'll pull your face off...

$2000 is very steep. That's what the blue book is for a perfect condition one with like less than 100K which you'd never find... I'm trying to sell mine for 1500 OBO and hope that I get at least 1000...
