Hi Guys, I've been reading posts on your website for quite a while now but have never posted anything before, I'm located in Brisbane Australia and I've drive a Soarer with a soon to be fitted 1.5jz. Anyway I'm looking for some Turbo info for my new Setup.

Firstly here is a bit of back ground for you all, I Built the motor, so It could handle 1000+ hp, not because I'm looking at going anywhere near that figure at this point in time, but to insure that nothing will be at its mechanical limits. So its fitted with Wiseco pistons, Crower rods, HKS 264 cams, Modded 1JZ Head fitted with 2JZGTE intake valves, Crower springs w/ titanium retainers, Adj Cam gears, Sard 800cc, Twin Fuel pumps, It been balanced and ARP studs used throught out. I'm running a shift kitted and strenghtened auto with a 2800/3200rpm stall converter. Big FMIC, Exhaust & ECU ect ect

Now I'm looking for 550rwhp, I also want something that will spool up quick and will make 15psi+ by 4000rpm. I've Been looking at a GT4088r but I'm not sure on how fast she will spool.

Any info or suggestions would be great, if you do suggest a turbo can you please also add at what rpm you would expect it to produce 15psi also any dyno charts would be great

I'll have my 1.5 running in about a month. I have the gt35r and it was perfect for my 1jz. I've heard that it will spool even faster with the 2jz bottom end. I"ve also heard from a few people that I will want a t66 once I get the 1.5 running and tuned. I don't know if they are correct or not, but Aaron has a good deal on the T66. I'll have to find the thread to show you what it is.

Here it is

GT40-88R WILL make 15psi by 4k, guaranteed.

My GT40-88 (non bb) makes 15psi by 4k. Has a hell of a lot of low-end too. it'll break loose around corners at 5psi

I run crower SC 272 cams, and a huge 24x12x4 intercooler with that.

I'm expecting to tune to 22psi this spring, and hopefully break 600whp.

Rob, are you planning on running 22psi as a dd? I know of a few guys that have their cars tuned at 21-22psi on 93 octane. Is this what you're planning on doing?

yes that's what I plan on doing. The car always runs on 94 octane. It's becoming a summer car now. I'm in the process of buying a 7M MKII for winter.

However, I highly doubt I will be driving it around a lot on 22psi on my street tires. I break loose at 60mph at 15psi. That's what boost controllers are for :)

I will be happy with 550rwhp, I don't want to much lag as I'm only runnning a 3200rpm stall convertor, If I can get postive boost by 3000rpm, 15psi by 4000rpm and get more hp by using another turbo all the better.

anyone one have any dyno graphs of turbos used on 1.5jz or 2jz that they could post?

cheers Cameron

On my GT40-88, I make positive boost about 2500rpm. By 3000rpm I'm making 5psi, and by 4000 I'm making 15psi. I don't have dyno graphs on my 2J bottom end, but it's in the high 400s, and that's not beginning to get into the turbo's efficiency. Crank it up into teh 20s, and you're making some serious power.

If you want 550whp, a GT35R could do it, and would spool crazy fast. Honestly though, I would go with the GT40R. You'll make the power, with less boost, and have lots of headroom for later use with spool characteristics that you'll be happy with, especially with an auto.

If you want to spend some money, you could also look at a T04Z. Flow maps are very similar to a GT40-88, but it's a bit more efficient, and has a lot more exhaust housing options.

Hey, Annoyingrob what are the full specs of your turbo? I see you have a .81 hot side, do you know any other Specs?
Cheers Cameron

What sort of other specs are you looking for? It's a Garrett GT40-88, with a precision .81 T4 rear housing. Precision may also clip/replace the exhaust wheel, but I'm not entirely sure. Compressor wheel is 64.5mm inducer (AKA a 65mm turbo), 88mm exducer (hence GT40-88). Comes with an un-cut anti-surge front housing, I believe .71 A/R.

Flow wise, it's a monster of a turbo. It should do over 600whp on a 1.5/2JZ on pump gas.

GT440R (GT40-88R) is essentially the same turbo, with a ball bearing center section. Precision can also make a GT40R with a .86 T4 hotside too.

If you're looking for 550-650hp, this is a good turbo. If you want to stay back in the 500s, you could also look at something slightly smaller, like a SP61GT (61mm turbo). I found the 40-88 to be too laggy on the 1JZ (4600rpm spool, and was a dog off boost), but with a 1.5JZ, it's come to life.

tlo86: yes, there are copies of the HKS T04Z. I'm unsure how they perform.
