So a little background...finished my 1J swap drove it hard and either melted a piston or rings in cylinder 6. Pulled the engine out, but havent taken the head off yet to see the damage. A local guy put a 2JZ-GE long block up for a slamming deal and I am thinking about picking it up. I do have a few questions about the compatbility though before jumping into it. I am planning on running my 1J head on the 2J block obviously.

1. Gaskets...what will I need?
2. Head studs... are they compatible?
3. Any extra sensors needed?
4. Mounts should fit, correct?
5. Any shimming or machine work necessary..buckets etc...

Keep in mind it is a GE block I dont know for certain if there is any real difference of the top of my head. Thanks in advance for the help, any is appreciated.

In essence, what needs to be done for this to work? Any write ups or threads Ive missed while searching?

You can look at my build up thread here and towards the end their is a lot of technical stuff about the head gaskets and compression ratio. The head fits easily onto the ge block, and everything else except for the waterneck fits easily too. You can also get a lot of info from www.clubna-t.com , I suggest you sign up for that forum. Good luck.

My buildup thread is http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62833

1. Get a 1JZ gasket kit from champion toyota.
2. yes, head studs are the same
3. you have all the sensors you need on your 1JZ.
4. yes, mounts fit
5. there's talk about oil passages not lining up, but as long as you use a 1JZ head gasket, it's really not an issue.

If you're looking at a GE block, you might want to either put a thicker head gasket in, or install some turbo pistons to lower compression.
