hey guys i just picked up a 2jz block and i have a few question:
how do i tell what type of pistons i have?
what head gasket should i use?
is there anything that i will need that i cant get off my 1j? (aside from a timing belt).

maybe i didnt read far enough into it but did u end up using a 1j head gasket and how did that water neck thing work out for u? do u have a pick of yours??? also u dont happen to have a gte piston and rod i could buy from u??? thank u very much for linking me to the thread. how do u like the 3 liter bottem end??

1jz-gte and 2jz-gte head gasket is pretty much the same thing. weld two waternecks together and cut about 1/2 inch off works fine.

love my 1.5jz

The 2jz bottom end is awesome, and sorry, but I don't have a gte piston. I also did like SSC suggested with the waterneck.

ok got the water neck covered and got the block to the machine shop today looks like it spun a bearing at some point in it's life, my machinist said it wasn't that bad. is there anything else i should get done while the block it there, don't have the funds for pistons and robs or boring it out right now:3d_frown:. also can i use a 1jz-gte piston i know the bore is the same just wondering if anyone has done it? if so then i just need to find a rod.

1jz-gte and 2jz-gte head gasket is pretty much the same thing.

What I mean is, the oil feed on the 1JZ head, and 2JZ head are different. They are actually slightly offset from each other. A 1JZ head gasket has a larger oil hole, sort of allowing the two offset passages to mate up, where as the 2JZ head gasket has a much smaller oil hole in it.

If you do use a 2JZ head gasket, I would suggest boring out the oil passage hole on it. If not, you risk starving the head of oil.

yeah its been a few years other then boaring the oil passage out its the same, im using a 1jz head gasket ( stock unmoded) and no problems.

thats good cuz i have a 1j HG anyway. still no luck finding a 2j piston :3d_frown:. i was also thinking of upgrading my injectors, are 440's drop in or do i need a 2j map?????

Jdm 440 injectors are drop in and do not require the resistor to be wired in.

alright so block is being done right now, cleaned new bearings, machined crank, rings etc. i will be using stock gte pistons and rods. im gonna have the piston cleaned next week and then take the 1j head in. my machinist told be he gonna take 5 thou off the head and that i would not effect the compresion so im down. in that case i am gonna stick to a 1jz gte head gasket. sry not pics yet im gonna try to get some up this week. thank for showing me your build suprahero, lol took me like 3 days to take it all in.
