idk exactly what your talking about when you say shims (the dowel pins?) but the dowel holes show no cracks at all.

this gasket was only used for 3k and the rest of it is in perfect reusable condition.

would the mushroomed edges cause any problems for sealing?

would you sell it like this?

Looks like the HG was put on dowel pins that were beat into the engine with something hard. This could cause a problem, but since I can't really check for distortion of the material from a picture (The tactile part of checking is required.) I couldn't really say if that HG is re-usable.

what would you do to check it?
the dowel pins are not scared at all....thats why im confused about the damage.
i just pulled another hg off the same motor and reused it.....no sign of damage on that one.

Top and Bottom layers are "shims" I was talking about cracks in them , clean the viton off and check them.

"If" there are no cracks I'd tap the mushroomed parts down with a piece of aluminium then ream them out for 10 thou clearence to a stock dowel pin and sell it.

Single crack and I'd bin it, I reused my HKS gaskets on average 4 times each before replacement.

Can't see that being the case as surely he'd have noticed the gasket wouldn't have gone over them on the initial install then the head would have sat down?

Every HKS gasket Ive seen was very tight going onto the dowel pins, but my cometic went on very easily (still tight, just perfectly lined up). Not sure if its an HKS thing or not.
