I am looking for a solid shop (race build)... I cant seem to give up the idea of finishing this pos... I have a stripped down 7m block and JE pistons/ rings. I need a shop to deck/hone/size rings and assemble. Suggestions would be appreciated. I need to order rods and get the head checked out as...
To answer the question of is it fun: Not at all if the head is in the car, but it can be done if you have a right angle drill and a good bit of patience. I would go ahead and order new studs, nuts, and gasket(s) before you get started on it.
Are you 100% sure that is how he installed them? I am skeptical as they a pretty tight fit... Would a cam bearing installer for a domestic engine work? I am not sure if it is in the correct size range, but if it were, there may be a chance you can rent one at an auto parts place. You could...
Its rarely a case that a certain brand will be superior to another, the clearances are the critical part. I would talk to your machine shop, and order whatever bearings will give you the oil clearances you are looking for. That's not to say there should be no consideration given to the quality...
Waste gate is 48x48mm bolt pattern and looks to be a 45mm opening. I am using a hks 50mm gate with an adapter (seen tack welded in the pic). I started bead blasting it, but I still have some spots I missed... The guy had two manifolds... I got the first by using buy it now.
fwiw earily jdm 7mgte blocks don't have oil squirters, but have the oil feed/2nd knock sensor etc. I have been hesitant to build this block because of its lack of squirters, but perhaps it is not such a bad thing after all.
What are your thoughts on hose size for the pcv lines on the top of the head? They will be merged into a single line, then it will run to the Greddy catch can (while on topic, dose anyone know of the thread size for the catch can (old square style)? I assume it is bsp?) I currently have 3/8"...
I will be up that way in two weeks for the f1 race... Do you still have the suspension pieces? I know I sent a pm awhile back and never got a response....
No boost at a standstill. The engine has to be under load to produce boost. Free revving dose not provide enough exhaust energy to spool the turbo. If you can’t hear the stock bov, there is a good chance it is broken. Might want to look into that.
Sounds like your EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) cooler gasket blew out. It is the plate that sits on the back of the head. The gasket is cheap, but it is a pain to replace as there is not a lot of room to work back there. Good luck!
