Which 09 did he get? Bad maintainence? What kind of problems, I haven't seen any issues with those Corollas. Motor problems, transmission, electronics? I believe there was a recall about the computer's motherboard cracking but that's all I know of.
Well, have you checked all fuses?
Sounds like the computer is not turning on if the check engine light is not coming on.
Check the switched source for the ECU switch.
Does the car actually have power? Do any lights illuminate up when you turn the ignition on?
If the check engine light is not illuminating, that means the computer is not turning on. If not lights are. It turning on, the car doesn't have power. Does the engine crank when you turn the key...
The wiring info has been added for the round plug alternator setup.
Keep in mind. I have seen some 1JZ harness where the round plug is in the engine harness and not on the body harness. It's easier to extend the stock one. I will look up to see how it's done if you have a round plug already...
Garage door opener? Know how to kill the remote sensing on it? ;). I am not kidding either. I doubt they would want to park inside if they have to manually open it.
Hopefully they are not vengeful and would do something to your car.

Are you sure you want to buy and have a monthly payment hovering over your head?
Fair enough. Post up some pictures. What are your plans for a rebuild? Know any good local machine shops? Do your homework before using any machine shop.

Just kidding! First, do you have a nice place to do the work, like a garage? I'd leave the body last. Think of it this way, a nice looking car goes nowhere if the drivetrain is poopy.
Pull the 7M and get it apart. See what you need and start looking in the classifieds for deals...

You know I make those flanges to sell? I make the adapter to go from the HKS flange to a Tial if the manifold is in your car and you cannot weld it. So I have all dimensions now of all wastegates, even the knock off HKS 50MM. You had the genuine four bolt HKS?
The knock off wastegates have an issue of where the valve seats to the ring. They are not machined properly which causes the valve to be offset when mating against the ring. I had a knock off HKS and the valve was wobbling when you would shake it with your had, so you can only imagine how bad...
