i believe its as simple as ground one wire off the harness the nuetral safety switch i have a auto 1j chaser ecu with a r154 it works just fine or you could run a push button start as an option untill you figure it out just wire in a relay to the signal on the starter
could be a exhaust manifold leak too i had that problem when i still had my stock 7m in my car but i was able to hear the leak double check all the gasketsfor the manifold turbo and wastegate

i dont think the idle would change probably a boost leak when i use to blow off intercooler piping completly off it didnt change the way the car idle felt very under powered wit no boost but yea check your piping at least start with that first
