I say get a supra if you want to cruise with top off. Decent power up to 300whp is pretty reliable and doesn't cost that much. Cruising with top off is one of the main reason I am getting the supra.

The stock wastegate is rated at 6.5 psi. When it sees more than 6.5 it open. We use shim to tighten the spring and boost controller to manipulate the pressure going to wastegate.

GM 305 sucks. NA 7m motor make 10hp more. If you want v8 put sbf or sbc.

I think mk2 came with those.
