actually the new seals are installed and the car is back together I'm just asking if I make a change to cam timing do I need to change the ignition timing as well?
edit: Well I went ahead and pulled out my CPS and aligned the marks on the gears and slid it back in, now I'm off to buy a...
sorry this is my first time dealing with timing
I am 100 percent sure that my cam timing is setup correctly. However, I have yet to touch the ignition timing.
Does ignition timing have to be set according to cam timing or are they completely separate?
okay well i had a few spare minutes at work this morning to pull it in the shop and get the timing light on it...although I only had time to look at it and make no adjustments.
Everything is timed correctly, but it isn't the way it was when I took the cam gears off. Does that mean I need to...
yeah that is how I ended up getting them off actually.
Well my car is back together now and it seems really slow and something definitely isn't right. Although it starts fine and revs fine it lost so much power.
Also the blue wire for the a/c fan switch on the thermostat housing snapped...
So was it not okay for me to move the cam gears and crank separately? This timing stuff confuses me so much...
with the timing belt off the cam gears, I moved the crank to zero, and then individually turned the cam gears by hand to line up the match marks, is this gonna cause any problems?
thanks for the fast replies!
I didn't even think to just hold it with my hands I guess it probably isn't torqued down very tight...40 ft/lbs or something like that. I'll go try that out and see what happens.
I am in the middle of working on my supra. I am trying to replace the cam seals but I cannot remove the cam gears. I don't have any special tools, nor do i have a ride to get to autozone or o'reilly's. Anyways is there some trick to getting them off without the SST?
Another question when...
well, my radiator is cracked and going to be replaced soon, but it got me thinking. If the radiator is cracked that means the entire system is losing pressure right? So even a small leak in a radiator could cause overheating possibly after a long drive, as it loses pressure gradually. Am i...
I had the most irritating part throttle misfire you can imagine, and I just knew it had to be the TPS. About a week and a half ago, I finally found that perfect spot for it and, what do you know, no more misfire AT ALL. As the car gets old the resistance in the TPS gets all out of whack. Keep...
i tried tracking down that same problem on my car. I was so convinced that it was the TPS, despite everyone telling me that the TPS doesn't have that great of an effect on noticeable driving conditions. But eventually I tweaked it right to that perfect position and my car runs smooth as hell...
thanks for the replies and links guys!
But the problem isn't limited to turning one way and it doesn't occur at full lock. It happens with any amount of steering movement and sometimes even when I'm accelerating and braking. I'm going to get some ball joints anyways, but does anyone know...
i have a popping sound while i'm turning at slow or fast speeds. Tried searching but couldn't find much. I was thinking lower ball joints but maybe tie rod ends, what are some checks i can do to find out for sure what it is?
look at where the prongs are pointed on the throttle body, now look at the ones on the TPS. They are pointed opposite directions, and they should be pointed in the same direction, when I install the sensor and set it to the proper setting it is nowhere near lined up with the screw holes...
Got a new TPS from O'reillys today and the prongs don't line up with those on the TB, is this the nonturbo one or something? If you look up the part number (EC3147) on their website it says 87-93 Toyota Supra V6...lol.
well here is a pic to help explain
is there a way to adjust this deal...
