2j having head gasket issues aren't even close! You probably don't know but when they went to a better engine they also went to a better head gasket. The stock multilayer metal one holds up just fine. Stock 2jz can hold 6-700 hp with out going pop. That's why the mkiv doesn't have one of these...
It's funny when all these 7m guys start talking about 7m and the hoops you have to jump through to make them reliable. While they are doing all that, 2jz guys are slapping on turbos and bigger injectors. The 2jz is now a monster and the 7m is merely reliable.
Slow progress, but I just finished installing the 550's and the acura legend resistor pack. Super rich now running11.7 at idle on the wideband. Next is to mock up the turbo. I might have it done by next month.
People drop 1j and 2j into all different kinds of cars all day long. You Hardly Ever Hear Of A 7m swap. I've owned all three and will never and I mean never ever go back to a 7m. Remember toyota itself went away from the 7m for the 1j mid production of the mkiii. 1j with some 550's and a single...
What hvyman said. If it's just on start up I would say valve stem seals. Because when the car sits the oil leaks pass them, but when you fire it up it burns off the oil and no more smoke.
If this car is new to you, the first thing I would do is a compression check. Once you know the cylinders are good you can go from there. First thing first compression check. Especially if it's has a 7m that someone wants to get rid of.
TPS isn't installed correctly, I would guess. Make sure that it's catching the little wing looking thing on the throttle body. Make sure it is loading the spring of the tps. If that makes any sense.
I guess I'll just bite the bullet and buy that kit. I was hoping to just buy the fitting since I have everything else. Did you get the 3 inch exhaust housing adapter from them too?
Does that thing have a idler pulley? Take the belt off and see how it feels. My 2j made a noise like that. I replaced the bearing in the pulley for 12 bucks.
I put my hand on the power steering pump while the engine was running, and I could feel the popping. So I knew it was in the pulley...
