i want a diesel 4runner, a 96+ with an auto. most of the JDM importers that sell to the public only have the more popular sports cars and such. the places that import huge stuffs to elsewhere wont sell privately.

so, can any of you guys up north think of canadian importers who could get me a TDI-intercooled, 96+ 4runner/hilux surf? for under $9k?

JDM Connections... give them a call and tell them what you want. It may not be quick, but if it's in Japan, I'm told they will buy it for you and ship it.

Most importers only bring in 15+ year old vehicles (as that is all you can legally register in Canada).

Getting a newer vehicle will be harder, especially into the states.

Do some searching though, there are plenty of Surfs and Land Cruisers in Canada now, so you should be able to find someone that imports them.

check out http://www.abbotsfordjapanauto.com/inventory.html thay usually have a bit of everything ON SITE! The prices listed are a bit high but when I was looking at gettign my supra from these guys tehy came down huge on the price so dont let it get ya down too much. They will also bring in specific cars if you want to pre-order. Great place to order parts from toyota japan from to; usually recieve my parts within the week.

your allowed to import a vehicle that is not 15 years old, you just cant insure it. There are places that will sell what your looking for, maybe not the year though. 22 RHD vehicles discharged 2 nights ago, and there are all hilux and surfs. Ill ask around and see if i can find an importer whos got one

I know there are some vehicles in the country that are newer than 15 years, and they're not being driven. Thus, most places bring in cars that can be driven, making it hard to find a 96+.

you just ask your insurance company to apraise the value on your car.
Same as older cars.

Im pretty sure its a law that any vehicle imported from out of country must be 15 years or older to even register it. Unless the vehicle was sold in the country of orgin under the same badge name

exactly, but its not impossible. If you talked to a importer directly im sure you could talk him in to getting one for you. Or if you want to be real ambitious you could import one all on your own.

ya, ive yet to see a japanese car that isnt 15 years or older, but theres a way to do it. Look at all the canadians buying new cars down south right now with the dollar being good. Im not exactly sure how it works, but theres got to be a way

there is a subsection in the revised code for the US stating that any vehicle which passes canada's standards automatically passes US standards since they are both nearly the same, as mentioned above.

also, im sure i can find a cheap wrecked/blownup 3rd gen 4Runner, title it, tag it and insure it and put the corresponding stuffs onto the jdm one... if i were to KEEP a complete JDM truck. but i really prefer to have a full half cut. Jarco has a the necessary parts but not the clip for a 2nd Gen 4runner swap... but thast not intercooled. id like to do the swap on the 3rd gen trucks since they are nicer, newer and bigger inside... plus TMIC.

a half cut w/ the tranny, xfer case, and rear end (if necessary) would be all i want. and Jarco (typically being the most expensive of half-cut retailers) was $3900 for the 2nd gen swap. the 3rd gen swap, i would hope, wouldnt be TOO much more than that.

id like to be able to at least have a means of purchase lined up for when i off my Cummins ram (And maybe my supra) so i dont have to wait forever.
