Yet another 1JZ Question thread

Hey there guys.

After a bit of browsing on eBay, I found that complete soarers with wrecked bodies sell quite cheaply - a damaged car sold on ebay for £400 today where as I’ve have had quotes from JDM breakers that the 1JZ-GTE motor alone would cost roughly the same, so I was wondering....

If I were to purchase a complete 1JZ’d soarer, would I require any less parts to stick it into a MKIII than I would have needed if I just went with a front clip?

I’d be looking to swap everything motor related in a UK 1988 supra including the autobox from the soarer (if possible).

I’ve seen that it’s not usually the front clip that makes a 1JZ swap so expensive, but all the little bits and pieces involved in the swap, couldn’t I pull most of those bits out of the soarer? If so, I might even be able to make money on a 1JZ swap by selling off what’s left on the soarer I’m finished.

Thanks

you can i just dont know about putting a soarer ECU into a MKIII. thats the only problem there. but i guess you CAN wire anything into any car.

What about all of the other bits and pieces that make up the swap. There was a brilliant thread detailing all of the separate parts they had to buy for their 1JZ swap and how much they cost. I just can't for the live of me find it

There is no point at all in buying a soarer clip. I bought a soarer 1jz engine and put it in my MKIII. You will have to get the jza70 motor mount brackets and also depend on what tranny you are going with. I used my R154 and I had to buy a 1jz bell housing and flywheel. Only benefit of getting the clip is you don't have to worry about missing parts or cut harnesses. Here's a wiring how to that I posted for the soarer 1jz.

So, if there is no advantage in getting a front clip, then I doubt that buying a full soarer like I was planning to do would make much of a difference then?

To be honest, I want to buy as few as parts as possible for the swap, the MKIII/1JZ aftermarket here in England is almost non existent, so I can't really be buying extra parts for the swap, not cheaply at least as I'm sure I would probably have to have everything I need imported from the states.

So just so we're clear, there is no advantage of me buying a full soarer instead of a front clip as far as extra parts are concerned?

a supra clip would suite you better... unless you are buying a soarer/sc300 :) the resale for those here is insane...

JZA70 supras are a lot more expensive (and rare) than soarers here. I've yet to see one be parted out here, and even then, I know it will be expensive.

I don't really think we do front clips here, it's either you buy the full car, so just get the engine and other parts you want at least at the breakers I've talked to.

It's either I buy a wrecked soarer and work with that, or pick up a separate engine + extras and if I did that, I'd probably look into going 2JZ-GE-T (and buy myself a GS300, take the engine and part it out) or 1UZ.

(This is all in theory by the way, not looking to go after big power for at least a couple of months)

I forgot to say I'd buy the GS for the engine and part the rest out. :icon_conf

It seems like buying a complete car only seems to work out slightly more expensive than buying an engine on it's own.

I would love a MK1 GS300 with a NA-T motor myself, but I've made a commitment to get the supra in top working order because I start buggering around with other cars.

The more I think about it, the more I think a 1JZ would be a bad idea. A real JZA70 would probably work out at about the same price as a swap.

Looks like I'm back to square one - NA-T 2JZ, or supercharged 1UZ :naughty:

Sorry to rebump this, but it looks like I may have to replace my 7M a lot sooner than I thought..

If I were to purchase a complete soarer, will I be in the same position as all of those that just bought a front clip?

I still find it kind of difficult to believe that there is no advantage of having a full car over a front clip.

Thanks

Josh

if you think about it, after the dashboard theres not much else you need... unless of course you want to use the fuel pump or differential but thats not really the case with the soarer
