okay so im young and wanting to get started on my project i have a 88 7mgte supra now i just changed headgasket and im looking to do my ic and piping. I talked to a guy about upping my boost to like 9 or 10 psi. He told me there was a valve i had to replace before i could idk what he was talking bout he said the stock valve only lets u run so much boost.. i was confused so i was thinking maybe he was talking about wastegate or bov now im doing my ic and piping this week do i have to run a bov yet or can i wait. i have stock ct26 im going to use this winter then upgrade.

Hard to say for sure, but he was probably talking about the wastegate.

The easiest and cheapest way to get to 9 or 10 PSI (About as much as I'd run on the stock fuel system myself anyway) is to shim the wastegate. Basically unbolt it from the front of the turbo, and put it back on with a couple of washers between it and the turbo body. This will put a slight amount more strain on the wastegate diaphragm, but it'll get the results that you're looking for. Might take a bit of trial and error to get exactly the peak boost you want.

The other way (More correct, with more adjustment) is to get a boost controller. These can vary from a cheap eBay manual controller (About $10) to an HKS electronic one (About $400) with different features and adjustability. Almost any of them will do the trick.

Im almost 100% positive the valve that person was talkin about would be the stock bypass valve. A lot of people swap the stocker out for a bosch bypass valve.
pic of the bosch unit.

yes you need to have some sort of way to release the positive pressure in IC piping
weather you use a aftermarket BOV or a stock bypass valve is up to you
if you dont run either of these then every time you build boost and let off your turbo will spin the opposite direction
which will lower the health of your turbo

me personally i wouldnt shim my wastegate
buy a boost controller and play around with the settings until your happy and below fuel cut
