Ok I'm trying to find the difference in the 87-88 harness (yellow) and the 89-92 harness (grey). I would like to know the benefits "if any" of the two. I would also like to know if its a good idea to switch from yellow to grey, and can I use a grey harness/w ecu on an 88 supra. I know it may be out there in this question but there is never a dumb question just dumb people! Lol any incite would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think there's a "better" choice, just what fits your engine's sensors/ecu.
I'm pretty sure a few of the pinouts change, and thus you can't use a yellow plug ecu on a grey plug harness, and vise-versa.

I know the ECU's and harnesses are not interchangeable...... But wanted to know the differences in the two. I've noticed the the aem has a V2 version ecu for the 89-92 as the 87-88 does not. I'm going to be running a map ECU 2 on my 88 but would like to upgrade to a full standalone eventually. So switching the harness was and still can be a option.

The plugs are different.

FWIW, I have a yellow plug ECU and harness in my grey plug '89. It plugged in, all except the ABS harness. The '89 is a special case though. It's grey plug, but has more in common with the earlier yellow plug harnesses than the later grey plug harnesses.

The ECU changed over completely, and has different plugs. The later grey plug harnesses reflect that, and the 2 are not interchangeable, however, I've found that wiring information from the '90 TSRM works fine looking for stuff on either the '89 chassis harness or the '87 engine harness by wire colour. The plug pinouts don't always work though, and many are a completely different shape than the diagrams in the book.
