i would want one to but not one the cuts in to the head liner. somthing that would be easy to remove.

You wouldn't need it with the targa on so that won't be an issue...

Take the targa off and put the X-brace on.

It is really simple to make, two pieces of tubing, cut to length in an X pattern with mounts made to bolt into the stock targa mount locations...

Unless you are reffering to an X-brace in tha hatch area? I assumed a targa X-brace...

yes targa brace.. i want one that i can just leave up there with the targa on and off

that is going to be A LOT harder to fabricate.

Planning on welding it to the a/b pillars??

Edit: it will also make removing the bolts for the targa a pain in the ass if the brace is there all the time.

Years back when Joe Edwards was running Speedtoys he was considering having an X-Brace made. This would be much better than the "targa bars" that are currently being sold as those do not provide any stability against twisting.

What I would love to see is an X-Brace that could also have snaps for fitting a nice canvas top while away from the car - you know just in case it rains, or some bird flies over.

Projectsupra had a GB not too long ago. Check the "Approved Group Buys" section.

He said he wasn't going to do another for a long time though.

from the maker himself:

It's a 0.095 wall IIRC, mild steel, total it's 1" x 2". A 1" x 1" box tube welded to the halves of a 1" OD pipe. The gussets are just 1/4" plate.

hope that helps

I WAS going to do an x-brace for my senior project during the winter, but my mentor had a baby, and didnt have enough time to help me out w/ the project.

it was going to be something like the picture(I just now threw that together in PS)

I'll get the measurments down for you after I get home from school.

I cant remember, but my mentor said that an x-brace with bars across the sides would be a lot more effective than just an x-brace, and he built a professionally-competitive C5 'vette, so I'd say he know his shit.

EDIT: I used 1inch round tubing(.095 walls), because that is easier to mount shit to hane oval, and I wanted to pad it, and make a camera mount for it too.

well i couldnt see this bieng all that hard to make, its just cutting 4 mounting plates ouut of 1/4 inch steel, shaping them to fit and either welding a nut, or taping the plate, then just conect them with steel tubing of some sort weather square or round, im think im gona give it a go when it warms up, its still around 30-50 degrees here. and i have no money lol

cool idk if you think about it the xbrace would be better because it holds all peices together... idk though cant wait to see what you come up with

no, no, my design was the x-brace PLUS the sidebars.

and nosechunks, go for it, it really aint all that hard. just, if you're patient, and have a lot endurance, cut the plates w/ a sawsall, it makes much cleaner cuts if you're not proficient w/ the oxyacetylene, or plasma cutters.

I'm probly gonna continue my project in the summer. I only have about 8 hours of work left on it.

haha... I still wish you had made just a couple more projectsupra, I wanted one so bad when you had that GB going. Oh well, maybe someone can replicate it hopefully as high quality as your looked.

To everyone saying this part is easy to fabricate, try it and then let me know how it works out for you.:squint:
Yeah, I agree!
So does my friend Andy who's a welder(91supraturbo), that's sitting right next to me.
