this may seem a little harsh but why the hell would a targa brace affect gas mileage? yes it does stiffen up the chassis less violent shakes while the targa is off, i believe GotToyota is working on a group buy for these....

ninja edit: use the search function next time, it works wonders.

Yeah, we're trying to fab up one very soon. Hopefully it will go down, along with upper radiator piping.

Seems like the uppere radiator piping would be easy to make. I haven't checked to see what your making them out of or what they're going to look like. Just so I don't get made fun of, I think I'll use the search button and find out about them................lol

... This may not contribute, but doesn't the x-bar defeat the purpose of having the Targa?

How about subframe connectors, instead, to stiffen the chassis? (that's what we f'body guys do ;))

seems like a General Discussions topic to me...
but i don't think you'll see any differance in fuel mileage.. other than the normal drop when you take out your targa.

the xbrace lets you still have the openess of having the targa off but allows you not to flex... when my targa is off i get really bad bounch

When the targa is off, you also increase the wind drag.... kinda like a parachute. So, my "opinion" is that your gas mileage may suffer... how much will depend on your driving habits/environments.

When it's a bit cooler outside, I'll not put it back on for days.... worth the xtra gas IMHO.

lmao the "gas mileage" discussion is ridiculous..
It helps with flex.
I've got a good 89 NA hardtop shell I'll trade you for your targa.

That's what I found silly.... whether you have an x-brace or anything, it'd be the same as having the targa off.

I got the Dean Marcum (I think) targa bars a few years back and used them for the 1st time, earlier this year. Just those made a HUGE difference. An x-brace is bound to really keep things stiff, since I think the targa bars are adequate for daily driving. If you autocross or anything else with the targa off, you really need something like an x-brace to make sure you have no flex...

Oh, and if you are autocrossing/drag racing, then gas mileage is probably not at the top of the list of things to worry about I guess.

If you ever go for a drive in a targa supra with the targa off, just watch the windshield.

BTW, what material will the x-brace be made of, how much, and how will it mount up?
