So I just put in new NGK BCPR7ES plugs gapped at .028, hoping to fix the slight miss I've been having. Had some denso's gapped around .035 in there, this is the first time I've changed the plugs on the 1jz. I started up the car and now it's missing really bad and you can smell the unburnt fuel.

WTF!

Any ideas? All coilpacks are on the plugs tight, gaps were checked and rechecked and checked again. All the bolts are holding down the coilpacks are nice and tight. The installation went really smooth I wasn't expecting any problems.

Other things to note:
Car was warm ~60c when I started it
It started up right away just fine, then started missing bad
These plugs are 1 level colder than stock (If that would have anything to do with this... :1poke: )

Help :( I wanted to go out tonight and I have work tomorrow too

weird only thing i can think of is that one of your coils was slightly cracked before and pulling it off to change the plug made it FUBAR?

only thing that makes sense

Is there any fix to this or do I have to buy new parts?

I noticed where one of the coils plugs onto its cracked around the base and when I connect the coil the coilpack it moves slightly back and is flexible. The others aren't like this.

I thought maybe I had the frontmost coilpack backwards, but I just flipped it and the car is running basically the same..

Well Jose aka OneBad7m said I should try putting the stockers back in, so I did, and now the car is running like a champ again. The NGK BCPR7ES just don't wanna fire in my engine. The plugs were still clean, they weren't wet with fuel, but for whatever reason they were making the engine miss really really bad. So thanks Jose! You saved my car tonight and I am utterly thankful cuz I really needed it tomorrow.

Cool! great to hear it help get it back on the road. try the 6097's I got some at the shop. Sorry I didn't get back to you, I was in the middle of dinner.:icon_surp As for gap on those stockers you should be ok with stock gap, I think its in the .030's IIRC.

Knowing the copper 6097s wear out faster than other plugs, I gap them down a little lower at .28 so I don't have to regap when they start breaking up at .30.

I'm still going on the same set I bought back in January.

But I'm a lazy fucker, so... :dunno:
