I did a compression check, and my #5 cylinder is 125lbs compared to all the others are 160 - 165 lbs. The car has been shifting and running ok, just alittle weak, until I changed Cam Covers and Vacuum Lines. Now it cuts out like crazy after 2000 to 2500 RPM. It gets all jerky and misses like a bitch! I assumed it just shit out on me, and blew up....BUT then I shifted into neutral, and is revved great, and didn't sound bad at all! I am confused now. It also revs fine in park, but when it is driven, I can't even go over 40MPH! Did I screw up my vacuum lines and it mess with the transmission? (Auto) The car hasn't detonated on me (might have on previous owner, don't know) I am sure the bad compression has been there for awhile. Anyone have a clue what would cause this? I can't afford a rebuild right now, so I was hoping to baby it a few more months. :3d_frown:

I don't know much about our automatic trannys, but it sounds like a vaccuum hose is not right on the tranny. And your compression is signaling you could also have BHG. It's not recommended, but you could probably baby it along a good while til you can afford to put some money into the car. But, be warned if you do, you will need to replace the motor, not just rebuild it.

It was a vacuum hose! There was a big one split down the side that came off the brake booster and connected to the intake. It is not cutting out. As for the low compression, chances are it was like that since I bought it, I think the guy knew he screwed it up, and thats why he sold it so cheap to me. He figured he could find someone who didn't know better since it was still drivable. I still don't regret getting it though. I love this car. When it comes to rebuild or new block, I am thinking about saving up for a 1JZ-GTE swap. I will baby it, and cross my fingers. Thanks for the help!
