Is the woodruff key (WK) supposed to fit on the crank pretty snug? the WK slot on my crank is really worn out. I can wobble the key left and right really good. oh, and the dampner was pretty easy to wobble off the crank snout. is this a sign of bad things?

i was afraid of that. there someone here in town that's sell a brand new crank. i'll see what he wants for it.

I just had to buy another harmonic balancer because the keyway on the one that came on the engine I'm rebuilding is chewed up. Fortunately, my crank was fine.

Before I found out that my crank was ok, I assumed it wasn't & started to plan for the worst case scenario. I was told that the crank's keyway can be welded up & recut, so you might want to look into that possibility.

yeah, i guess i'll check with my machinist and ask if he can perform that task. but i'm also afraid that the crank's snout is out of round too. there's signs on the snout and pulley that the pulley was wobbling. i guess before i purchase this crank i'll ask tomorrow about repairing my existing one.

If the snout is out of round, you will for sure need a new crank. When looking for one, try to find one that is standard & can either be micro polished or cut .001 to clean it up. I recommend avoiding running a crank that has been cut .002, my theory is .002 leads to rodknock.
