Sorry if this has been covered before (and I'm sure it has), but my '88 Turbo is acting pretty weird. Before this, it was running fine, no smoke, etc.

So, anyway, the car had been sitting at home for 3-4 days. I went out to start it, it cranked like always, but it wouldn't fire. Trust me, it was at the point that it should have fired. Thinking it might have been the plugs, I removed one to check it's condition: it seemed fine, but I thought I should check it anyway. I held the wire/plug to the head checking for spark (which it had) while my buddy cranked the engine; while checking for spark, the car fired up immediately, running on 5 cylinders. We cut our operation short, re-installed the plug, and the car started right up and ran fine.

After I got where I needed to go, I turned the car off and left it for 20 minutes at most. I came back out and experienced the same thing as before. I hoped for some luck and tried the plug thing again, but with no success.

This strikes me as something small, like a sensor or something; the major operations of the driveline are in great working order, and this problem is bugging me to death. What do you guys think? Ever have any similar problems?

Thanks for reading.

I with shaeff on this one...I had a short on the CPS wires. Did the same thing at random times.

I found the problem!!! After clean all my plugs, wires, and coils the car started. This puzzled me but I took it for a test drive arround town. Came back no problems, but I never shut my car off and restarted it. So i tried to restart the car same problem but this time it would just click and nothing like a dead battery. I hooked a multimeter to the battery it read 12.5 volts. Which is cool. tried to start it with the meter on the battery. it started and voltage dropped to 9.5 then right up to 13.5-14.
That all seemed normal. but the car didn't stay on in slow dropped to 500 then 400 then stalled. So i tried another test I turned on all electronics 9 defroster, cruise, wipers, climate control etc.) then tried to start it. Car wouldn't crank and battery read 1.5 volts and climbed very slow to 12.5. i waited for maybe 10 minutes and tried again. Same thing. So the battery is shot i bought a new one and no problems happenned again. Starts fine, idles normal, and restars with all electrics on fine. Thanks for everyones help.

This is from my thread try some stuff out and let me know how it went ok. I hope this is your problem because batteries aren't tooo expensive. I got mine at sears for 35.95 with core.
