Hey fellas loong time supra lover and forum lurker of about 6 months. recently purchased a '91 turbo, targa, 5spd in super red. The interior is sorta rough (torn/cracked/sun dried shadow(?) grey leather), the paint needs a bit of help (front clip is faded) all of this im sure due to it being a florida car, which leads me to my next point its basically rust free, a bit on the hatch under the trim but for a car that has spent a few years in WNY its CLEAN! The motor is obviously a 7m-gte to which one of the previous owners added an HKS FCON, a Greddy profec boost controller, shimmed the wastegate, 3" straight de-catted exhaust with a magnaflow muffler, open air filter and a AEM boost gauge. I have began tearing the engine down to chase a knocking sound on start up, rough/high idle and blue pouring smoke. After a compression test the front cylinder showed 0psi the other 5 around 150psi. After pulling the head and seeing a chunk of the front piston missing ive found my answer. This has led me to pursue a 1JZ-GTE swap. Right now im down to a block with rotating assembly in the car and i have a buddy helping me along the way who has owned a few MKIIIs. Did i mention it has 59k miles on the clock and i only paid $1300? I think i may have gotten a good deal. I wanted to make a formal introduction to the forum and thank anyone who helps me in the future! Happy boosting.

Welcome to SM. I was looking to go down a similar path to yours 2 years back, hen lucked out & found a 1JZ swapped MKIII for sale in good condition. Sometimes, I wonder if it would have been more satisfying to go thru the swap myself, but then my arthritic back tells me "no." (Mind you, I have still done a TON to this car, mostly for resto purposes) Will you be starting a detailed build thread? Would love to follow your progress.

Welcome!

We also have a thread that shows before and afters on builds, so be sure to take and post pictures now. Also, I paid a very comparable price for my 92, and it was also a pretty similar car. Mines a 92 super red, with shadow cloth. You got a bad motor and need paint. I got paint and no motor...no transmission, no gas tank, no wheels, no bumpers. You got upgrades, and so did I, those are similar as well. So, I believe you got a great deal, just do the most with what you have and stick to it.
