Good evening,

I have a hacked up 7mgte grey plug harness, problem is that the previous owner hacked about 3 feet out of half the wires in between the firewall grommet and where it begins to separate into sensors. I am soldering in wires to complete the harness, but I ran into a small issues with four wires (2 pairs). There are 4 insulated wires two are gray and two are brown, does anyone know what they are for and would it matter if they were wired up wrong. I am thinking it deals with the knock sensors, but I am not too sure. My whole concern is what if I wire up the wrong brown to brown or gray to gray. Any input would be great... have a great day!

Quick picture so you can see what I am dealing with. Also if anyone could give me any detail what sensors they are for I could check continuity from the wire to ecu and wire to sensor.

Thanks

Here is a picture of the wires (2 gray 2 brown, the other wire is just for reference to show their size). I would just normally wire it up and troubleshoot it myself, but since this will be going into my mx72 wagon I would like to lessen the potential for mis-wiring in at least this portion.

Thank you!

Just an update in case anyone needs to know.

Brown wires e1 e2 appear to be for the computer and sensor grounds

Gray wires VF and IGSW appear to be for Check connector and Iginition Switch.

hold up, These look like the knock sensor and o2 sensor shielded wires. I wouldnt bother patching them since the harness is out. Run new shielded wire for these. Your splicing these together in an area that has the highest chance for disturbance. The power wires for the ignitor and injectors are going to be your biggest issue. If your dead set on reusing these wires, look up how to properly splice shielded wires.

Grey ones are knock sensors. Brown are ground iirc.

What's the inside wire colors. Gray ones should be clear.

Verify the pin out on the ecu connector. If the brown wire is shielded, the shield wire should be grounded. The harness grounds I pulled out when I rebuilt my harness all had a dark blue/black spot every few inches or white with black stripes. Sensor grounds where light brown/tan. My knock sensors where brown wire with a translucent inner sleeve (like what I think the picture shows) and the o2 sensor wiring was gray/white.
